Thor's from some other place so who knows.
Tony and Captain America for sure.
I always saw Clint, Natasha, Coulson and Fury as being moderates or libertarians.
Loki would be an anarchist because he does what he wants.

Cap, absolutely not.

(He's one of the most progressively minded superheroes around.)

(Anonymous) 2012-07-25 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
This!

And he'd probably be, among the Avengers, one of the most actively interested in politics.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-25 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Comicsverse Cap, yeah.

I think movieverse Cap is still adjusting to the future in a way that might make conservatism appealing to him. Although I do think his nature is to sympathise with people who are oppressed, so he might grow out of it once the future shock started to wear off.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-25 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
This, I think he might be more liberal-minded for his time period, but in the future could be seen as moderate at the very least. Also conservatism/liberalism aren't the same as being democrat or republican, I think Captain America would still identify with republicans more, even despite whatever social views he may have.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-25 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I have so much trouble seeing a poor kid raised by a single mom during the depression voting with today's Republicans, conservative nostalgia or not.

I'm not quite sure. He grew up during the Great Depression and as the son of a poor, single, immigrant mother.
I picture him more as a staunch supporter of the welfare system (and as a Franklin Roosevelt fan) but to each their own.

This.

Cap wouldn't stand for the Republicans' bullshit. He'd be absolutely against their many and varied -isms and desire to oppress people, as well as their support of what is basically a theocracy. :\
elaminator: (Avengers: Coulson & Thor)

[personal profile] elaminator 2012-07-25 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed.

[personal profile] mekkio 2012-07-26 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. He would see modern Republicans as bullies. And be angry over how they want to slash and burn so many social programs for the poor while giving tax breaks to the rich and corporations.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-26 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
people choose political parties for lots of different reasons, though. not all republicans are against being progressive.

lol

Bear in mind that the last Republican president Steve Rogers would have known was Herbert Hoover, though. It's unlikely that someone from a working-class background back then would have been a Republican out of familial loyalty.

[personal profile] miffthefox 2012-07-26 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
Captain America would independently evaluate each candidate prior to election with no party allegeince.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-29 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously, this. OP seems to think Cap would look between the Democratic and Republican platforms and choose the Republican platform. Cap would choose Cap's platform, 'nuff said.

Thor would be like "Obama is not your monarch? What is this democracy you speak of?".
mercoledi: (Cho /shit/...)

[personal profile] mercoledi 2012-07-26 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
I think I now need a fic in which that line exists.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-26 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you for this lol.

[personal profile] omorka 2012-07-26 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, he knows about parliamentary democracy - he was still being worshipped when the Althing was founded in Iceland. He just probably doesn't think much of it.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-26 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Totally agree.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-26 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Loki as an anarchist? Not the way he's written in the movies. Anarchists believe in things like consensus decision making. Loki doesn't give a shit about what anyone else wants - he's taking it if he wants it, and he believes in absolute monarchies and his right to rule over others. Plus Joss Whedon gave him that weird fascist "freedom from being free" speech. I think other interpretations of Loki have him being more chaotic, but that is more man-child libertarian than anarchist.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-26 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Tony before Afghanistan, probably. Tony after Afghanistan, probably not. This is a guy with so much money already that he can indulge any and every whim he has. Not all the super-wealthy are Republicans. Last I heard, Bill Gates was saying that the rich needed to be taxed more and he didn't mind paying his share. I could see Tony falling into that category.

TBH, Tony's the kind of person I can see giving to various campaigns -- some of them probably conflicting -- and forgetting or not even caring to vote.

You didn't mention Banner, but I have a hard time seeing a scientist like Bruce being in a political party that ignores, rejects, and suppresses scientific evidence on things like climate change and, oh, evolution.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-26 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
This. Particularly after IM2, when Tony was all "Lolnololololololol" when the government wanted to control him.

Comics Tony? Fo' sho. Do we not remember Civil War and who started it?

[personal profile] kribban 2012-07-26 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
This. Particularly after IM2, when Tony was all "Lolnololololololol" when the government wanted to control him.

Can you elaborate this? I watched Iron Man 2 again just the other week, and his reluctance to turn his technology over to the government made me think he must be libertarian, or at least suspicious of government.

Do. Not. EVER. Judge. Tony's. Personality. Based. On. Civil. War. EVER. You can judge his personality based on Civil War maybe by saying "Well, he did this in Civil War, therefore he'd do exactly the opposite in every other circumstance."
