The Consensus

(Anonymous) 2012-07-25 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Having read most of the comments that have shown up before case's regular posting time:

Captain America - a pretty big nope.
Natasha - maybe.
Bruce - nope.
Tony - maybe leaning yes.
Clint - no idea.
Thor - nope, but only because Asgardian society wouldn't understand a party system.

Thanks for playing, OP.

I'd say Tony would be a pretty big no. (I talking movie!verse only.) Generally: Republicans hate science and progress. Tony likes these things. Republicans like war and weapons. Tony doesn't (anymore).

Also, I'd say since the Republican party has been bending over backwards to appeal to racists and bigots, and science Tony doesn't seem to be either of these things, I'd say he probably wouldn't vote Republican.

Probably. I think he's an ex-Republican myself, but it's also possible he never bothered to un-affiliate with all his important Iron Man stuff going on.

I can see the argument that Tony Stark would be Republican because of his stance during the Civil War, which could read like human rights versus prejudice, but if you read the registration act more like a gun control/weapon control issue then he reads more like a Democrat.

We're talking movieverse though.

Movieverse =/= comicsverse.

Also, what Tony did in Civil War *completely* went against his prior characterization, which was majorly obsessed with freedom rather than security, extremely pro-individual rights, toting a ginormous hate-boner for government control and force, and rabidly opposing war and the military-industrial complex.

Basically, Civil War!Tony is the absolute polar opposite of every single thing pre-Civil War!Tony has ever stood for. Which I guess Mark Millar thought would be "cool" or "deep" or some bullshit.
