6. I've never seen it romanized with three 'u's. Romanization is a tricky thing anyway, and I tend to think three 'u's is just excessive. It doesn't seem to serve any purpose in the pronounciation.

10. Kai is "lighter"? We're only on the first few episodes. Like in the previous series, it's the calm before the storm. Anyway, now that four is out, hopefully people will change their tune...

13. YOUR ARE AN HERO.

6.

(Anonymous) 2007-07-29 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
It's supposed to have three; it's romanized as "yuuutsu" both in my English-Japanese dictionary and in the Suzumiya Haruhi official fanbook. It's just how the kanji in the title works.

1. HOLY SHIT do I hear you. I'm a 28-year-old dude in a fandom populated with girls ten years my junior. I feel soooo creepy sometimes.

6. Normally I'd be right with you on this, but "yuuutsu" just looks silly, and most non-native Japanese speakers are going to be able to time the mora properly anyway. That said, weird romanization drives me nuts, and it's gotten so bad that there are titles who don't even romanize consistently within the title. Take, for example, the official, licensor-mandated title for a new show about a kid wizard in olden Japan: "Shonen Onmyouji." Try to guess why this drives me crazy.

Me, I just write 憂鬱 and be done with the whole mess.

[identity profile] pts.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, and by "are going to be able to," I mean, of course, "are NOT going to be able to."

Clearly.

14. And here I thought I was the only one who thought of them together.

(Anonymous) 2007-07-29 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
YOU ARE NEVER ALONE when it comes to slashing two characters together. Trust me on this one.

11 - Keep your rifles up, it's the elusive Teal Deer!

[identity profile] eibii.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. Definitely needs more appreciation, that is for sure. But even then, it's so hard to imagine an active Planetes fandom. The series is so very unlike anything else I've run into. It would take someone with a good understanding of how a story (big or small) works to start doing fic for it, even oneshots. The flavor of it is so distinct that usual fan tropes would just bounce off, unless done in some cleverly ironic fashion.

I can imagine some of the best writers I know looking at it and saying one of two things.

1) "I have no desire to write for this, because it's said everything it needs to, I don't need to add a damn thing."

or 2) "Oh, hey, I could write about -- oh, never mind. I'm nowhere near good enough for this." [bummed, proceeds to toss idea into metaphorical wastebasket, and go work on something else]

It's kind of cool, but... very intimidating. I'd still read it, though.

Don't start me on the badassery that would be a well-done cosplay. How many hours and hundreds of bucks would one blow in materials and work to get a spacesuit like that? The mind, she boggles.

Re: 11 - Keep your rifles up, it's the elusive Teal Deer!

[identity profile] pts.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Planetes is awesome.

I had this idea for an expansive sequel that I even went as far as outlining, but it would've been at least a novel's worth of material and augh I am not remotely writer enough to be doing stuff like that. :-( So yeah, number 2.

Wow, cosplay never occurred to me, mostly because they don't seem like costumes, somehow. But yeah, that would be incredibly cool. Whoever does it is my hero.

I don't get your subject line.

9- The photoshopping is impressive, but looking at what you've shopped, aren't you just saying 'bad cosplayers = cosplayers over size 8?' (U.S size2)

[identity profile] valeriepage10.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
13: I realized it when I watched the original cartoon series over twenty years ago (I'm old).

9

HOLY CRAP THAT IS A GOOD JOB.

You should take commissions for shopping people's cosplay pics.

9

[identity profile] nashidesei.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Good job on the 'shopping, I have to say that, but...

I can't be the only person who thinks the quality of cosplay is based mostly on the COSTUME, right? 'Cause, y'know, that costume wasn't changed at all, and therefore the cosplay itself isn't bad. You just didn't like the cosplayer's weight.

Re: 9

[identity profile] repeatvoffender.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
Seconded. Seriously, she's not even that bad, when it comes to the weight department. I've seen some excellent cosplay on some huge people, and been able to just appreciate the work done on the cosplay. While my friends compared them to the blueberry chick in Charlie/Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

I'm all for accuracy in cosplaying, and try not to cosplay characters that don't fit my body type, but I'm seriously not going to expect that from anyone else - cosplaying is about fun, sheesh. And it's an excellent costume.

[identity profile] zoom-gas.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
7. aw yeah
9. Not bad! Not bad at all! (lol @ the chair in the background though) MAKE MORE PLZ.
13. fhfhhdfdsgf YESSSSS. DO WANT.

I am totally and completely with you on that one.

Not a secret #2

Hell yes! A Hairspray one! ♥ Corny would approve of this!

I've logged 353:11 on my Sapphire game, and I don't regret a minute of it. xDDD
ouo: (Clue; What the . . . ?)

[personal profile] ouo 2007-07-29 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
9. ...The only thing bad about that cosplay is her facial expression. That girl SERIOUSLY needs to look happier, but the 'shop doesn't really fix that. *oddly bothered by this*

[identity profile] writing-lovely.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
12. Can I join you in being immature? That sounds exactly like something I would do.

14. My childhood! Now I wanna do it, too. D:

Not!Secret 2. I just saw Hairspray tonight! XD Totally agreed, but when Tracy was singing "Good Morning Baltimore" all I could think was, "What Baltimore are you talking about?"

[identity profile] sailormoon.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
9. Holy fuck *_* Nice job.

[identity profile] pimmy.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
8. i ALWAYS spend ATLEAST 200 hours on every pokemon game i own :D

[identity profile] yummycoffee.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
2. Having my own personal Sai would rock. :D

4. Wait so...are these people your roommates or something? Are they typing on their computers role playing with one another, or are they making out/having sex in front of you saying creepy things within earshot? SITUATION, I NEEDS IT.

8. Pokemans is so cute, who could ever grow out of it? <3

9. Her girth has been absorbed by the chair, LOL! It's bad cosplay alright, but it's not because she's on the big side. The costume just looks terrible, anyone can see that.

11. I already commented elsewhere about this one, but I love Planetes too!! I can't ever get over how adorable the marriage proposal was. X3 You know it probably doesn't have much of a fandom because there is no room for gay at all in it.

12. I don't know the first thing about these games or characters, but I enjoy your logic! :D

17. D: THANKS NOW I CAN'T UNSEE IT.

not!fandom/toobig: HAHA! It's frustrating when you're the middle schooler, but it's so true, so true.

(Anonymous) 2007-07-29 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it was the greatest marriage proposal I've ever seen in anime.

Admittedly the field ain't exactly wide, but still, it made me grin.

1. High school wasn't kind to me, either, so I understand your hesitation.
4. o.O You poor dear.
15. Drat you. One more plot bunny for the pile... :-)
glazedmacguffin: (POPE!)

1. I feel that way a lot. Mostly being intimidated by younger fans. I get scared of them. I'm 26 now and I know how I was when I was 16, and I wouldn't want to deal with that.

5. I have. But not because of Role-play. I've RPed with plenty of people and that's all it was, RP. But the times I have fallen for someone it's been from the real conversation I've had with them, which is what I think most instances of, "I've fallen in love with my RP partner" are about. Not because they honestly think the other person is Sephiroth and they're Cloud or whatever (otakin excluded here).

9. You are a savior of self-loathing cosplayers everywhere.

17. Okay, you just negated my #5 argument there. Wee.

18. Um... well... I've fallen for dicks before. So... It happens. Though if their the type of person that can't understand differences of opinion, I'd just roll my eyes and move on.

[identity profile] icouldbeblank.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
12: ....You know what? I've never noticed that Ky was between Sol's legs. I always thought it was just some white-out design or something. I am slow O.O
