Me too. I adore Natasha/Bucky and I love Natasha/Clint but only as perfect best friends.

Maybe they won't? If they really must put Clint and Natasha together, couldn't they do it in an AU comic (and so not mess with the Natasha/Bucky)?

tbh in the MCU I think I want to stick with Steve/Bucky, Clint/Natasha, and Sciencebros (or Tony/Pepper. Or Tony/Bruce/Pepper whatever)... they all have mooooooountains of chemistry and I'd rather they stick with that than sacrifice chemistry to shoehorn plot in. Bucky/Natasha as a past thing would be fine though.

... But we haven't SEEN Natasha and Bucky in the movie-verse interact yet. Who knows, they could blow Clint and Natasha out of the water. And given the history between the characters in the source material, I don't think "shoehorning" plot in is really accurate. It's a little early to say one way or the other, isn't it?

(Also, my comics bias showing... I can't with Clint/Natasha for longer than a couple minutes. Way better friends than lovers, IMO)

sure, it's true that they might have crazy chemistry; and if they do, that'd be great. I'm just stating my preference is all. And that I'd be upset if they threw out natural chemistry in favor of plot-driven relationships.

I'm with you in Comics bias, I just don't like Clint/Natasha (honestly anyone/Natasha is not for me). Where are all my Hawkeye/Scarlet Witch brethen? :(

I want Natasha to stay single and awesome in the movieverse. That is literally all I want out of the remaining movies, and I will be so very surprised and so very happy if I get it.

From what I've read, Marvel hasn't been integrating movie canon too much into the main continuity. So I don't think you'll have a problem there.

That said, what is wrong with this artwork? omg

Marvel can't integrate the movie canon into the current comics. In the movies, the heroes actually act like people you can stand to be around.

Oh, snap! Truth.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-04 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol true. I stopped reading the Avengers and such when I realized I was literally rooting for no one. Same with X-Men (although there were too many universes too--that was also a problem.)

Movie!characterization is much nicer than comic!characterization. XD

[personal profile] intrigueing 2012-08-04 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure it'll be fine? I mean, it's pretty obvious that the movie and the comics are separate universes, and unlike DC, Marvel hasn't really taken too much direction from the movies. And when they did, it blew up in their face. Remember how they had an entire ridiculous thing where Peter Parker turns into a giant spider and gives birth to himself (or whatever, I didn't read the whole arc, I only read scans summarizing and mocking the story on scans_daily or something) in order to give him those organic webshooters from the Raimi films?
insanenoodlyguy: (Default)

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2012-08-04 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not how it went. You should stay away from scans_daily. The forgot how to have fun with comics. When Gail Simone thinks your Social Justice Warrioring is bullshit, it's time to pack up.

I'm just going to post here to say that I absolutely adore Bucky and Natasha together, and pretty much just want them to continue to kick ass in the comics.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-04 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Natasha/Clint already happened in the comics. It didn't go well. I like Natasha/Bucky too.
insanenoodlyguy: (Default)

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2012-08-04 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
What if they have both, like the actual comics? She ends up with clint a while, it doesn't work out, and then she's with Bucky later on?

Would that be an acceptable compromise?

[personal profile] intrigueing 2012-08-04 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahh! A chance to be snobby and professorial about my useless knowledge of shipping fandom:

When people ship a couple in a non-twisted way, they want them to be together forever, and having them be just friends or exes without too much mess is far, far, FAR more preferable to a failed relationship, unless it's of the putting-unfinished-business-to-rest variety. A failed relationship with one character and a successful one with another is nowhere near a compromise. It's the opposite of a compromise. It's a case of shitting on one relationship and then holding up the other as great in comparison, even if the shitting is done in a very tasteful and respectful way.

That would actually be pretty cool, especially if it ended with Clint and Natasha deciding that they kick more ass as friends... but then you'd get the stupid people saying that she was a slut for having relationships with multiple people...
forgottenjester: (Default)

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2012-08-04 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
1) I doubt that would happen in the comics for reasons other people have pointed out. However, if you're saying you want the movies to be like the comics... I really wouldn't want her with either. I enjoyed the chemistry of Natasha/Clint in the Avengers movie but I think a canon relationship with them would be hard to pull off well. My thoughts about Natasha/Bucky are in 2.

This next bit is a spoiler for Captain America 2 movie.

2) Is it bad that I'm nervous about Natasha being in the CA2 movie because I don't want her to start a relationship with Bucky, who will also be in the movie? I'm not opposed to the relationship itself. I just have no faith in the writers to pull it off well. They'll just turn her into "The Girlfriend". You know it. I know it. We all know it. Though I would be interested in how Bucky would be treated in an Avenger movie if they were together because since she's the one on the team it would put him in the position normally held by women in comic book movies.

In response to 2), if the writers worked the plot in any way that would turn Natasha into "the Girlfriend", then they would be seriously off the track on how to adapt the Winter Soldier storyline. Because honestly, the story really should be about Steve's relationships with different people, and how he tries to help Bucky. I love the Bucky X Nat ship, but I think that if Natasha is in the film, her role should mainly revolve around being a Shield agent and having personal knowledge of what the Winter Soldier is capable of.

It'd be fun if they hinted at a past relationship, but I can't see them rekindling a romance in this film since it would distract from Steve . If they do, I would really want it to be in a dedicated Black Widow movie, so that the relationship could be properly established in addition to what else makes her awesome.

Bucky/Natasha is awesome in the comics (though I also ship Clint/Natasha in the comics). I really, really don't want it to happen in the movies. Clint and Natasha just had so much chemistry, and their friendship was just awesome. I can totally see things turning to romance in a believable way.

My preference actually would be for no romance. But if Natasha is going to be with anyone in the movies, it should be Clint.
