20. It's not the best thing ever. The writing is terrible.

...I love it anyway.

5 - SABRIEL! I loved that book to bits!

13 - I get that too, to some degree. It's hard to divorce creator and creation.

16 - That IS really adorable. Oh, Yakitate<3

18 - If Zuko doesn't switch over at some point, I think I'll be really, really disappointed. Season two will seem pointless.

Not the OP, but word. I found the ending of season 2 to be horribly disappointing in that respect.

6. Is it bad that the first response I have is, 'Wow, Vincent can seme?'

14. They're shinigami. When did practicality have anything to do with appearance?

14. It's always possible, there's already a lot of characters whose hair actually has plot behind it. (Ichigo's coloring, Orihime's coloring and hairstyle (twice), Kenpachi's bells.) In fact, Ukitake's hair already has some plot -- it was black before he contracted tuberculosis, but it turned white in a short while after he got it, I think.

But I'd also point out that long hair may be indicative of nobility: take Byakuya, for example, who is so painfully practical that it's hard for him to act like a human. XD And his hair is long, albeit not as long as Ukitake's. But Ukitake is also largely confined because of his illness, so... I don't know, I don't find it terribly OOC, personally.

#13-- explain?

13 explains!

(Anonymous) 2007-07-30 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
I'm referencing the sorta "infamous" quote by Lain creators in their Animerica interview. (http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/2157/lainmag3smgq1.jpg) Of course, after numerous references to this interview, Ueda tries backpeddling and explains. Courtesy of wiki:

"Producer Ueda had to answer repeated queries about a statement made in an Animerica interview.[15][48][26] The controversial statement said Lain was "a sort of cultural war against American culture and the American sense of values we [Japan] adopted after World War II".[23] He later explained in numerous interviews that he created Lain with a set of values he took as distinctly Japanese; he hoped Americans would not understand the series as the Japanese would. This would lead to a "war of ideas" over the meaning of the anime, hopefully culminating in new communication between the two cultures. When he discovered that the American audience held the same views on the series as the Japanese, he was disappointed."

Don't get me wrong. I still love Lain and the fact that the series is a statement on the invasion of culture blew me away (in a good "wow, didn't see that coming" way). And I know Ueda isn't the only one working on the series. But now whenever I watch it I can't stop this nagging "This isn't meant for you" thoughts in the back of my mind, like I'll never truly understand it. XD Ahh I wish I didn't read it.

Another example of my secret though would be Tiny Tim. That funny high pitched guy that sings "Things that bother you never bother me. I feel happy and fine!" on SpongeBob Squarepants. I like that song. Then I read him up on wiki about his views on women which is basically "They should be seen and not heard and not speak unless a man speaks to them!" Yikes, Tiny Tim.

1. Don't let the big names ruin your fun. Write what you want. You'll probably find that the fandom isn't as claustrophobic as it looks at a glance.

12. I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. D= Oddly, the first time I played it I whipped her good, but every subsequent time I just couldn't do it. The bosses in that game really aren't that difficult (especially the final boss) but Kilia is a big exception to that.

(Anonymous) 2007-07-29 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
15. And yet, the mods got over one hundred applications last app period. So they must be doing something right.

10. And yet you never see them getting on people who have desk jobs inside and don't go outside because of that. :\

12. Hell yes. She was ridiculously hard. >>' You could hardly stun her.

13. See this is why I don't even look for stuff about creators (or band members or actors). I don't want my perception of their works to be ruined.

19. His haircut as of late really kind of fails. :| He was an adorable kid. Kind of an average teenager.

1. Write it anyway--always write those ideas that want to come out. Or at least write the ideas down so you don't forget them! At worst you don't have to post anything, but if you have fun writing, do it :D and maybe after it's written you'll want to post it anyway :)

13. I hear you. Anne McCaffrey wrote some cool books about telepathic dragons and their mind-bonded riders that included homosexuality as basically an accepted fact of life in the books. Cool, right? Two guys are lovers that live together and nobody bats an eye. Except then it turned out she had some insane looney tunes ideas about how being gay actually works--she thinks that if a guy gets penetrated in the ass, he'll become gay. Basically you could anally rape a straight man, even with a foreign object, and afterwords he'd become homosexual. ::facepalm:: Thank god that didn't come through in the books.

[identity profile] yami-chan.livejournal.com 2007-07-30 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
No matter how many times I hear that, it never stops being funny. Tent poles make you gay! What is wrong with that woman!?

[identity profile] crackjaw.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
13. I understand. After I learned what Orson Scott Card was really like, I became really conflicted and upset because Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead are among my favorite books.

Then I decided that as long as they don't bring their offending personal philosophy into their works, I can ignore them as individuals and just enjoy what they produce.

Re: oh and

[identity profile] greeneyedlady.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I fee the same way. I love Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead very much, but some of his more recent stuff does reflect his offending personal beliefs. It's really unfortunate.

1.) Just do your own thing.. write what you want and be happy for that.. that's what I say. Of course there are going to be elitists in every fandom, but it shouldn't stop you from writing what you want and proudly displaying it.

2.) I like the pairing and I -still- think one is going to die. I mean alot of fangirls think that Kuro/Fai is serious business.

14.) Ah, a secret about Ukitake.. I am sure that Kubo Tite just thought that he needed to have long hair or something, and Ukitake -does- have his serious side. Perhaps it is because Ukitake's soul is rooted in tradition.. both his and Shunsui's.. and perhaps in the old days, no one cut their hair. Who knows? But if you think about it.. Byakuya has long hair and he seems too serious and practical to have it as well. (And if anyone pulls the fact that Byakuya deserves long hair because he's pretty.. I'll hit them)

2. Even if Shaoran learns about sex, he'll probably remain a prude, blushing, stammering little thing like he's always been XD

And if you think killing off one of the two will stop the fangirls, and somehow make Shaoran more popular and/or make people take you seriously? You must be new to fandom.
