Women experience vaginal discharge. Yes, even those who don't shit in their pants.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-13 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
really? i don't really have that problem. unless i just haven't worn a pair long enough to notice. do you not change your panties everyday or something? maybe it has to do with the kind of food you eat. i don't know. this is news to me.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaginal_discharge

The more you know.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-13 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
is it normal to see it, though? like, are people discharging gobs of it a day? cause yeah, i've never seen it on my panties.

I think it's often clear

(Anonymous) 2012-08-14 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
It depends on the person. Just as some people sweat more than others, some women have more discharge than others.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-14 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Some people do, yes. It's just a thing. When I ovulate it's like a clear period.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-14 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Depends on the time of the month. When I'm ovulating it's like egg white. When I'm about to start my period it's a little cottage cheesy.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-14 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
might want to get that checked

(Anonymous) 2012-08-13 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
OH FUCK NO YOU DID NOT JUST REVEAL OUR SECRET

I'M GATHERING THE HOUNDS

I WILL BRING YOU TO JUSTICE

THE SISTERHOOD WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS SACRILEGE

No, but seriously, this.

I actually prefer white underwear so I can monitor that, and I feel like I would be ruining perfectly cute panties if they were colored or were anything other than white. I don't even wear beige. I just... I don't know.

Most underwear has a white 'liner' in the crotch, even the rainbow colors kind. Or, at least, most i've noticed. But, you know - washing them normally should remove anything and not leave them 'ruined'...?

To each their own, of course.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-14 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I know that washing gets rid of it, but just the idea of, er, soiling them with secretions and stuff if they're not all white makes me feel weird. Kinda guilty. Like I want to apologize to the panties for it.

Like I'm ruining them, even if just then. I don't know how to explain it.

[personal profile] tabaqui 2012-08-15 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, dude.
I get that sort of, um...weirdly misplaced guilt. But really - panties are there to be worn! By passing them by and rejecting them, you make the panties sad.

They just want to be worn.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-15 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe one day, then.

[personal profile] tabaqui 2012-08-15 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Don't make the baby panties cry!

Um.

:)

(Anonymous) 2012-08-13 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
...But it's wet, so wouldn't it be noticeable on any colored underwear? And would it really be visible to someone seeing a flash of your ass?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-13 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
And... pantyliners exist?
diet_poison: (Default)

[personal profile] diet_poison 2012-08-14 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
hahaha ty, this is the first comment I've seen that even mentions pantyliners

(Anonymous) 2012-08-14 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
I don't recommend wearing pantyliners all the time. Great way to get BV.

*waves TMI flag*

TMI maybe?

[personal profile] diet_poison 2012-08-14 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
ummm thanks? I've worn pantyliners literally every day since middle school, that's... *counts* more than seven years, and I've never had BV (at least not with symptoms?).

Also I just did some quick research on BV and while there are several lifestyle factors that affect your likelihood of getting it, wearing pantyliners isn't one of them. The closest was one site that said something about "certain feminine hygiene products" but that's super vague and I'd suspect it has more to do with tampons made of different materials since apparently that can raise your bacterial level (idk I never use tampons).

Re: TMI maybe?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-14 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
If you've never been tested before, then you really don't know if you've never had it. My case was asymptomatic. The only sign there was something wrong was an abnormal pap smear.

After going through the usual process of elimination (changed panties at least once a day, didn't swim or sit in a wet bathing suit for long periods, wasn't sexually active, didn't douche or wash inside the vaginal opening with soap of any kind, etc.), I was told it was most likely my practice of always wearing a pantiliner, because the synthetic fiber in the liner and the plastic on the bottom of it aren't breathable the way cotton panties are. The heat, moisture, and lack of air creates a perfect environment for bacteria.

I work in sexual health and pantyliners are a bad idea. There's no need for them. It's one of those things where manufacturers have invented a problem where there isn't one. If vaginal discharge is so heavy it affects your underwear then you need a check up. Most women have some, but even the heaviest normal discharge will just cause a bit of a white mark when it dries, and will wash off. It's much healthier to wear cotton and let your whole vaginal area get some air flow. Pantyliners are only useful if you have a light period and use them for that, otherwise they make BV or Thrush worse.

WHATS BV

leave us hanging why don't you

(Anonymous) 2012-08-14 12:17 pm (UTC)(link)
My guess is bacterial vaginosis, but I've never met this as an abbreviation before so not sure.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-14 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Try changing them through the day.
