No most of the Sterek fic is terribly OOC and pretty painful to read besides.

Personally I'm enjoying the hell out of writing and reading gen fic and pack fic and rare pairs. That's where the fun in the fic for this fandom is for me.

Do you have any gen/pack fic recs? I'm new to this fandom (I devoured s1&2 last week, just in time for yesterday's finale, haha), and I'd love to read any! If you don't mind, that is. c: While I have to say Sterek has stolen my heart; at my core, I really just want everyone to hug it out platonically and live in the woods forever, haha.

Really? Sure, there are some horrible fics with a wuss!Derek but there are also lots of amazing Sterek-fics.

Try as I might, I can't ship them. I don't think Stiles will ever see Derek that way and Derek strikes me as wanting a family perhaps in Stiles, though anyone will do really than a boyfriend. Man, that guy is lonely.

I don't ship it either but I can see reading fic because they're my favorites. I wish Derek was MORE lonely in the fic I've read so far.

I'm not sure what you're looking for or what you consider IC, OP, but this post (http://foxxcub.livejournal.com/772446.html) was a really interesting examination of the dynamic and some of the problems with the fic, and also has links to some really good recs! So I thought that was interesting.

Darn it. Now I'm wishing F!S wasn't all Anon and such. I want to know who you are OP... and have a link to your fics maybe??? I'm genuinely curios to see how you write "Sterek", to see how different your stories turn out to be from most "Sterek" fic I've read.

I kind of agree. I do tend to like the fanon version of it when it's done well, but I rarely find it very IC with the show, if that makes sense.

I was pretty disappointed, tbh. Tumblr led me to believe they were super shippy and shit and wow the showrunners had acknowledged it! ...and they barely interact. I like their scenes together and I've shipped for far less, but this is seriously the flagship pairing? Seriously?

Competent leader!Derek and pack mother!Stiles is pretty bad imo, as well as "ur my 5ever" dynamics, but I'll take what I can get.

I don't really get the whole "pack mom" stiles phenomenon. He just doesn't seem to act that way in canon and yet almost everyone interprets him as the mommy of the pack...

I like pack mom!Stiles, but only paired up with incompetent!Derek, oddly enough. I love any fic where Stiles gets to be better at something than Derek, since Derek is so cocky.

What about the assumption that Stiles is (or would ever want to be) part of Derek's pack in the first place, which is pretty much the opposite of anything stated on the show.
The truth is almost every single fic for this pairing either starts out as fluffier than the fluffiest crack in other fandoms, or it's straight to the non-con.

I want to know which fics are yours, because IA with most D/S fic that is out there and I just started writing them myself but find it difficult to... I guess get them how I want to since I made the mistake of reading some fic first and not really sure where I want to go, but OOC is definitely not where I want to be.

From what I have come across, Stiles sounds like an idiot in most fic when he is actually really smart, albeit very talkative and ADD. There is most definitely a difference. Oh well.

I'm going to assume that your idea of IC is "act like real people" and say I agree (and kind of want to know where your fic is)

For me, there are so few intelligent fics in this fandom that I find myself more willing to just grin and bear it no matter the characterization.

Anyway, after that mess of a finale I think I might be done with the whole thing... There's only so many plot holes that fanfic can fix :\

If Stiles DIDNT give up what was going on then why was he let go? Why "isn't he a hero"? I am very confused as to what happened that we didn't see, there.

It was like they tried to blow our minds but it didn't really work because I was too busy going BUT STILES GAVE OVER THE INFO, RIGHT?

Most of the fic I've been reading is pretty great, but I've been going off of rec lists, so that would explain a lot. I've read a few that seems kind of dub-conny that I don't like, and I'm not into mindblowingly-awesome-at-sex!Derek, but for the most part I've read some great stuff, so I don't know what you would consider the fandom interpretation.

I have read some good ones, but more often than not I have x-ed out in the middle of fic because I haven't liked the characterization, or I keep reading the same thing over and over again.

I am not even entirely sure what I am looking for or what I want, all I know is it feels like... there isn't a build up? Sure, it could take chapters and chapters for them to get together but it isn't UST, really.

I am blabbing, not really sure if this makes sense but starting to write fic in this fandom has been hard because I can't seem to get a grasp on my personal head canon vs can vs fandom's canon.

I don't have any, I want some. Every Sterek fic I've opened has been like

Derek: I own you, Stiles. If anyone else touches/hurts you, I'll for real wolf slay them.

Stiles: 'Kay.

To each their own but I don't read that as all too IC. Does anybody have any recs where their relationship builds slowly and it's not flowery, possessive romance?

Not going to lie, I've been thinking about writing a secret like this. some of it is enjoyable, and the writing isn't always awful but very few people can write it convincingly in character. I've probably seen one or two fics in the past couple of months.

Also, even though I could ship so many pairings, and seriously I ship Derek with everyone, I do enjoy the subtlety the show creates (knowingly or not) of them protecting each other.

No, I think some of it's OOC -- I just don't care. I might have read your fic, too, I don't know.

But I do kind of wonder how you can paint everyone as OOC when you don't actually read any of the fic. I can, because I do, but I've read some that seems reasonably close to the mark (as close as canon is -- canon itself isn't massively consistant.)

Derek leaned in. "I'm going to bash your face in," he growled. His breath lashed against Stiles' ear.

"Yeah?" Stiles whispered. He squirmed uncomfortably; his stomach was churning with fear, but the rest of his body was responding with familiar heat. He wanted to sink into Derek even as he wanted to push him away and run. "Like to see you try."

Derek pulled back. He chuckled, but there was little mirth in his eyes. "Growing a pair, are you?" He grabbed the back of Stiles' neck, pulled his head toward him. The tips of their noses brushed. Stiles gasped.

"Charming. But it won't do you any good." Derek slid his hand around, folding it over Stiles' Adam's apple and pushing him back against the lockers. He drew his other arm back, preparing to strike, and Stiles braced himself, splaying his hands against the cold expanse of metal that cradled his back. Then, inexplicably, there was a pause. Derek's chest heaved. His pupils dilated. Stiles gulped and tried to ignore the fire that was coursing through him, the twisting pleasure that swiftly overriding his fear. And then a pair of hot, dry lips were on his, and a tongue was forcefully probing his mouth, and his mind was lost in the haze.
