I think people (at least in the USA) generally find it squicky to ship someone with the person that raised them, regardless of the age involved or if they're actually related by blood. (That being said, there's precedent for this being in Japanese culture, right? The Tale of Genji has something in it that's similar IIRC...)

I just loved the way they dealt with Gemma's rape (both the other characters and the show writers). That whole storyline was perfection.

Well yeah, who judges her for that? I moved a thousand miles away from my family for a reason. I talked to a psychiatrist today for the first time in years and I had to explain my medical history and when I mentioned that I was prone to bacterial infections, the psych asked me to talk a bit more about that. So I told him about my punctured eardrum and how I got a ton of ear infections after that, and he was like "how did that happen" and I had to explain that my dad hit me in the head really hard when I was twelve, and he was horrified. He asked if I had any nightmares or anything about it and I said, "no, not really". He was pretty surprised I didn't have PTSD after living with my family.

Actually, to duplicate these circumstances, you'd also be wishing a horrible dystopian future with horrors abounding for countless people. Not to mention all the others that'd have to die no matter how you came out of it.
