Shit, if you ever had a situation like The Long Winter, I want to live with you for any kind of apocalyptic situation.

OP

(Anonymous) 2012-08-19 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm Canadian heheh

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2012-08-19 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
So am I. Canadian isn't actually code for raised on a bear farm or whatever it is that people do in the country.

I'm really frustrated that those books are arranged out of order.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-19 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
OP

Not my set...I ganked the pic from PicSearch. My set would never be out of order, yo. NEVER. :-)

(Anonymous) 2012-08-19 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I am, too.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-19 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too!

Glad I'm not the only one having an OCD fit over here.

Glad I am not the only one.

One is upside down, too. >

No you won't. Living in the middle of nowhere makes you safe from the initial run, sure. But they'll find you in the long wait afterwards. Your scent carried on the wind will attract the herd, and your small humble home will come down around you as they claw from every side.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-19 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I was referring to survival skills, dude. I have survival skills! Er. Compared to the people I observed around me during the Eastern Seaboard blackout a few years ago, I do, anyway....

Awesome! I would love to give my kid that kind of upbringing.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-19 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, to survive the apocalypse you're eventually going to need to work with people. "W/e I have childhood skills" isn't going to cut it, especially since those skills won't take you being hunted into account.

I take zombie apocalypse scenarios seriously 8I

(Anonymous) 2012-08-19 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, when you're going against an undead army, you need epic-level strategical and tactical skills AND charisma/leadership skills.

Taking care of resources is essential, of course, but getting people to follow you and listen to you AND trust you is what will let you survive in the long run.

Unrelated to the secret (sort of), I want to know why NO ONE in zombie films ever gets smart and wears combat gear, helmets, layers, etc. Everyone is always running around in tank tops and t-shirts and shit!

Okay fine, maybe at first before you realize what's going on, but afterwards... common sense never kicks in, or what?! :|

P.s. As a cripple, I would be the first to die most likely. Also, in my work, the morgue is right next to our department, which I consider a colossally unfair disadvantage.

Because it's not as sexy!

But seriously, that's a huge pet peeve of mine too. It's like "find the nearest fucking motorcycle gear shop and get some leathers!" Or a cowboy outfit! Anything, jesus!

Holy shit OP, I have all of these books too. While I'm sure plenty of other people have read and enjoyed them, I've never met another person who has before. I think I have all the special edition cookbooks and survival books, too (and the ones about her daughter, rose??)

Well I'm one of those softies from the Left Coast, as you put it, and I wouldn't need you for a survival situation.

Not only is it easy to fish for sustenance, the salmon spawn every autumn, literally hundreds of thousands of them throwing themselves onto the shores of streams nearby. Pick them up, smoke them, and you have food all year. Geoducks are plentiful on the beach; red rock crabs and dungeness can be caught by hand in shallow water. Wild blackberries and huckleberries are plentiful, even in the cities. And it rarely drops below freezing - when it does, very slightly, and only for a few days at most.

Lol the rest of Canada can starve and freeze in the dark, we'll be fine ;p

*takes you seriously*

Be prepared to defend yourself then, not just against zombies, but other desperate humans who'll be looking to steal your food and resources. I know some survivalists personally who are pretty worried about this part of their plan; it's not just enough to live somewhere remote and self-sufficiently. It's enough to make me realise I'm dead meat frankly, because even though I learn bush skills and have considered living on a community, I'm also disabled. Yay civilisation?

...I grew up with this series. I'm named after the main character. I'm not entirely certain I will ever read the books again without thinking about whether the characters have the skill set to survive a zombie apocalypse.

And I thought rule-34 situations were harmful to one's childhood. Lol f!s.

I'm just pleased that The First Four Years isn't included in that book set. It sucked! [/petty]

I win then. I grew up in the middle of rural Alaska without running water or electricity. I do not understand how it is anything like those god awful books.

But then again I'm Athabascan, not some little white girl.
