13- YES. But already done and I already argued about it. ^^;

16-Huh, those pics are pretty. But I don't want one, they scare me. x.x

Re: 13, while I would agree that you can't automatically assume it's English they're speaking, I think the linguistic origins of names like "Edward Elric" are going to put you a lot closer to that than to Japanese. Still an assumption? Yes. A much more reasonable assumption than Japanese, though, IMO.

I want some Coke Raito please.

Actually, the official names list the character's name as "Edward Elric," and there are correct English spellings for the other characters as well. So any debate on whether "there is english" or whether "aru" is correct is all kind of moot. Geez, people.

2. DN fandom: because we definitely read it for the articles are only into it because of the serious metaphysical/moral issues it raises. *shot*

4. I've not yet read Pullman's books (not so long ago the very idea would probably have terrified me, actually. . .given what I'd heard about their underlying idea, but now I'd be interested to look them up) but I was also sorry to hear him bash C.S. Lewis' series. Seemed unnecessary--even if you don't share another author's view of the world, you can still respect his craft.

5. *cringes at picture* Ouch. What movie is that?

9. I lusted after him all through Sense and Sensibility when everyone else seemed to be looking at Hugh Grant--now, though, I dunno. Maybe it's just hard to get whole reams of Snape images out of my head every time I see him now, or something. ^^

11. IAWTS. Say it loud, say it proud: I LIKED THE DAMN BOOK, AND WTF ARE SO MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT? XD

[identity profile] halevy.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
17. But what about people who are wrongfully convicted? Media doesn't always have correct information and can be biased. :/ I wouldn't call him a villain but he was no saint. But the saying goes as, "Absolute power corrupts absolutely". I think Light could have done the right thing with the Death Note but instead, started looking at anyone who said it was wrong as a challenge to his "authority".

(Anonymous) 2007-08-01 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Re 17: I don't care what it says about me, but I'm sure Light isn't a real person. So Light shouldn't really affect your... personality/ethics/whatever wtf I don't know :\

[identity profile] subversive.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
1. HELL YES. ♥

2. I used to be vaguely into the slash for Death Note, but it... really doesn't make any sense when you consider how asexual L is or how sociopathic Light is. But I still think it's cute if it's amnesiac!Light. Maybe I'm just weird. And this comment had little to do with the secret, but I'm retarded and tangential like that. And I didn't even address the issue of Mello and Matt as a pairing, but that's because I hate the latter half of the series. Oh well. |D;

11. If your friends really would think less of you for that, they're probably not very good friends. I mean, it's one thing to think less of someone because they condone some horrible, immoral act or whatever, but if it's just because they like a certain book series, then that seems pretty silly to me. Sooo... hopefully you're just being paranoid, but if they really would think less of you, then... yeah. And I don't know you or your friends at all, but that's the impression I got anyway. |D;; Sorry.

17. Awww, he used to be so fluffy and cute. And.. I wouldn't worry about that so much if I were you. I mean, hell, I still wanted him to win even after he started killing (relative) innocents, and that probably doesn't say much for my supposed mental health, but I have really weird freaking ideas about morals in the first place, so I'd ignore me if I were you. STILL, you have less to worry about than I do, I think.

[identity profile] ignored-tears.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really, considering the original script of the series was written in the language of Japanese. You could pick random languages out of a hat, but Japanese will always have the highest priority for theories on what language the character's speak, since it was originally done in Japanese. Hagaren could be a world where there's no Japan, and all the characters speak Japanese regardless (for example), if you really want to start making random theories about it. :3

[identity profile] halevy.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
4. I agree. I don't agree with Pullman's views (although I don't know a lot about Christianity because I'm Sikh) but it never stopped me from enjoying his series.

Oh god. He was so freaking hot in that movie.

Now I feel the need to go watch it again. *_*

Documents in the series were shown to be written in English.

[identity profile] slylilgoblin.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
1. YES! Totally! I'd love that so so much!

4. I'm actually the other way around. I'm an athiest, but the reason I like HDM better is because, for me, while 'The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe' was utterly amazing, the other books just couldn't hold me attention. Maybe I got sick of the characters, or something. But Pullman's books have so much variety and so many interesting events, I can read them over and over again. Religion doesn't really come into it. I still love Aslan, though XD

[identity profile] ignored-tears.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wait -- yes, that's true. Though, the point is that WE'RE real people, and Light the character was a theory, so really it's a kind of discussion-thing like "If the sky were purple, would you like it?" even if it isn't purple.

[identity profile] sarajayechan.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
11. It makes me sad that people are so afraid to like things because their friends are such asses about it. If they're really your friends they'll STFU and let you love it. Just as long as you don't talk their heads off about it, of course.

19. They are, aren't they? ♥ I'd say in a stuffed animal kinda way, but that'd fit more for Toad, Yoshi or Mallow.

People who bash Johnny's incessantly are just as bad as those who are overzealous about it. Truth is, both good and bad have come from it. I'm not as big a fan as I used to be, and I know that there are definitely different tiers of talent within the agency, but you can't make sweeping assumptions about hundreds of boys and works starting from the 70s.

[identity profile] hezul.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm, I don't really put the language the series was presented in as the highest priority for what the characters are meant to be speaking, because if I woke up tomorrow and decided to go write something set in Russia, it would still be in English because I don't speak Russian. I don't think the language of the presentation and the language the characters are really using necessarily have any relation at all, and the names and setting look to be far more European influenced than Asian, I think.

...god why am I nitpicking at a fandom I left like two years ago, wtf me. XD

(Anonymous) 2007-08-01 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Like I said, it probably shouldn't affect you. Because, wtf man, that's just stupid if it does.

[identity profile] stakeh.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
2. The slash is great, but I think the plot mindfucking is so much better.

And there's my pointless two cents but OH WELL. 8]

Totally feel you there. I felt like she didn't make the transition from "wacky magical Sherlock Holmes" to "Epic Coming of Age Fantasy" very well.

Icon love!

What!? You don't own an El!? You don't want an El? How is that possible! Everyone loves El!

Just kidding, ha ha. Seriously, what is it with El? I don't really see what's great about El or most Luts dolls, especially after I saw some of the paler-colored ones in person and they were fucking GREEN. I'm sorry, pale does not = glow-in-the-dark greeny-white. Blegh. Anyway, they all kind of look the same to me, but then again I love DOT and my friend says she can't tell the difference between those dolls.

But it's like a freaking requirement that everyone must own at least one El. And then name him like... Azareth Darksoul or something. LOL. I've seen some good Els though, so I won't diss the mold as whole. ;)

[identity profile] ignored-tears.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you have a point there! 8D There's always the "innocent until proven guilty" saying, and that I agree with because there always is the chance that the person convicted is innocent.

Though, that's really how things are based in our part of the world. In other countries, they will kill you dead on the spot if they think you did something -- in our country this is considered very wrong, but in the other countries it's considered perfectly fine; it's just the norm. We think this is wrong, but maybe it's not, who knows? In the end, Justice is really what is most popularly believed in it's part of the world, and that's how I like to keep an open-mind and think maybe Light was Justice in his ways.
