Yes, I find it adorable that grown adults draw sexualized art of children, or characters who look like children. That's just the cutest, most innocent thing. It is not at all a legal way that people with that compulsion use to get off without technically breaking any laws.

Isn't loli/shota drawn by doujinshi artists anyway? We know there's a wealth of reasons the consumers go for the stuff, but on the artist end I'd suspect it's all about the money.

I just saw this movie for the first time like two weeks ago, and I ship it. I also ship Jason Statham and Sly Stallone's characters even harder.

What a freaking fun movie. If it had known that they'd be essentially laughing out of one side of their mouths the whole time, I'd have watched this movie ages ago. I very stoked about the sequel.

I've been shipping Sly and Jason since the first movie too. Ever since the plane scene where Jason had to crawl under/around Sly.

Also-all art should be respected? No, it shouldn't.
A lot of loli and shota isn't drawn because people think it's "cute". Admittedly the non-sexualized side of it might be (I can't speak for those people, clearly), but look at how it started or came about.

you won't ever convince anybody of this, anon. people don't change their minds about this sort of thing often. the best you can do is educate young people so that they don't ever start thinking bizarre things like reality mirrors fantasy or vice versa. the mechanisms of identification are complex and difficult to explain.

just anecdotally speaking, though, i lived in the land of pedo heaven (japan) for a few years and i would trust my kids with random strangers there sooner than i would trust a teacher back here in america.

Neither loli nor shota nor the idea of either appeal to me at all, but I too am puzzled by people's violent opposition to them. Much of fiction is full of all kinds of unacceptable fantasy. When the bad guys die at the end of a traditional hero story and you revel in their triumph, are you saying killing is okay? No, you're immersed in a story, and in the story the killing is portrayed as justified. That's a tame example... and it's tame on purpose, to show that stories and art about unacceptable things are completely common and an unremarkable thing in just about everyone's lives.

Except that every generation has its particular fears and terrors and things deemed unspeakable, the particular evils that completely take hold of us and horrify us all. And in our generation, one of our deepest horrors is to look around us and see the real exploitation of real children. That horror has seeped to the rock-bottom of our culture, such that even fantasy -- that realm where we usually accept that we can think about anything we want -- is tainted.

It's not logical, and as someone said above, I don't think you're going to convince anyone.

But for whatever it's worth, I'm with you. Inappropriate thoughts don't vanish because people stop thinking (or writing, or drawing) them.

And demonizing people for fantasy and refusing to draw distinctions isn't going to make the Jerry Sanduskys of the world vanish.

While sexualizing children is always wrong, I genuinely think that most people in the sort of subculture we are in right now who are into loli/shota are not pedophiles attracted to real life children because they're just so far down the rabbit hole of abstracting things and divorcing them from reality through fiction and symbols and sparkly cartoons that they're legitimately not making the cartoon children = real children association. So for them, they're not truly children, victims capable of being hurt and traumatized for life, but symbols of naivete/ineperience/sexual awakening/etc.

Just like most people who are sexually attracted to My Little Ponies don't actually want to fuck real horses, they're just that deep into escaping from reality that they steadily regressed until the only thing that they could possibly connect to real life enough to jack off to, but not enough to pose a threat of any kind, was ultra-simplified cartoon horses with vaguely anthropomorphic features (who represent and symbolize LOVE AND TOLERANCE).

I, like everyone else on the internet, have a PhD in Bullshitting Psychology so I know what I am talking about.
