Important: I'm really sorry about this, but I accidentally clicked the wrong thing and deleted the submission post from last week instead of saving it. Managed to save the first page (25) of secrets, but the rest (a bit over 100) are gone.

If you submitted something last week (Aug 26-Sept 1), please resubmit it here and it will still go up this week.

The submissions post for next week is linked below as usual.

Question to Loki fangirls

Why can't you just accept your favorite villain character the way he is? Flaws and all. Come on guys.

imma quote an anon from higher up on the thread:

...they want to vindicate the character who represents all their own pent-up resentment and hatred and entitlement and self-pity and bitterness and sadism and skeevy inability to realize that doing bad things is bad even if you are sad and not as popular as some other kids.

Hell, I'll admit to the three of the first four [and, on occasion, all four] - but the woobie-loki fans still skeeve me out.

A lot of us do. But it's still fun to think about all kinds of different what-ifs. You know, in the way not everything is black and white and people actually have fun with an idea instead of being sour little brats about erverything that doesn't fit their own interpretation? But every time you say something, moderate as it may be, the reaction is "WAAHH STOP WOOBIFYING LOKI I CAN'T HEAR YOU LALALA" without them even trying to actually read and understand what some points are about. I don't know, how about you ask why so many people who don't like Loki always go "but he is clearly evil and there are no other interpretations". That is very black-and-white. Especially since all the "I WANT TO RULE THE WORLD AS KING" stuff is so incredibly silly. In those scenes, Loki behaves like a complete moron, and considering he's supposed to be so smart, a lot of people can't really believe he's not putting on a show.

And I'm still quite sure that most of the kiddies here bawling their eyes out about how stupid the possibility of mind controlled Loki is just lack the creativity to imagine anything beyond 'but they would retcon the movie plot if he was completely guiltless'. The fact that mind control on a demi god would work differently than mind control of a human gets ignored. I'm fairly sure it would not be the same kind of mind control Loki has over Clint and Selvig. But if you give an alien god who is known for his backstabbing some powerful weapons and expect him to do your dirty work for you, I don't think you'd do that without any kind of securities, whether that would include keeping a leash on his mind or threatening him, which is a completely different kind of manipulation, but manipulation it is.

Well, I don't agree with the mind control theory, but I also don't think there's a completely black and white situation, in which his character as completely evil. (Petty, selfish, insecure, fuelled by thousands of years of resentment- a lot of which is understandable, but not completely evil.)

And even though Loki is a notorious trickster, in the comics it's a recurring trope that villains and Asgardians trust and fall for Loki's schemes time and time again, so it isn't being entirely dismissive by overlooking the fact that the Chitauri trusted Loki. And yes, I know, movie and comics canon are not the same thing, but the movies are still borrowing from the source material.
Tbh, I've actually just taken it for granted that MCU Loki's character is essentially similar to the Loki of the comics. I actually would be interested in seeing a different take on his character in the upcoming Thor movie, although I would be admittedly disappointed.

Loki behaves like a complete moron, and considering he's supposed to be so smart, a lot of people can't really believe he's not putting on a show
But to my my knowledge his character in MCU canon is supposed to be a moron. He had tons of moronic moments in Thor too (the scene with the Destroyer comes to mind). This is what I mean by his fans being unable to accept his flaws. I like him for the dickhole that he is.

But yeah, there's nothing wrong with having your own interpretation of canon either. And it can be frustrating to have your theories hated on all the time. I've liked unpopular things in fandom before, and it can suck. (But we moron!Loki loving fans are allowed to disagree with you too- respectfully, of course.)

Oh no, I actually agree on the part that Loki is kind of a moron. Well not kind of. A lot. I mean, who tries to argue with the Hulk? But the way he's basically going on and on about this 'IMMA RULE DA WORLD' seems a bit too vocal, even for the moron characterisation. But maybe that's just my bad memory - I need to watch the movie again as soon as I get the DVD, maybe I'm completely wrong about it.

Even then, I'm glad there are still people out there one can have a civilised conversation with.

Well, I dislike the mind-control Loki theory because IMO it's very uncreative and boring and would spoil the subtext and emotional impact of his character's scenes in The Avengers. But creative explanations for why he was so gung-ho about ruling the world and why he decided to team up with the Chitauri and stuff? That I'm all for. There could be a load of explanations far less bland and dull than mind-control to explore that. Loki just being evil for evil's sake and with no line of reason to his actions is also boring. Plus, disappointing. Seriously, the idea of Loki just being a fundamentally evil shit from the start robs his character's backstory and his position in Asgard and his and Thor's and his and Odin's relationship of so much.

I think the problem is that both woobifiers AND anti-woobifiers tend to think that for some reason, having complex or even sympathetic reasoning justifies his behavior, and that if he didn't take pure vicious sadistic glee in conquering the world, if he had doubts, if he was insecure, if he was putting on a fake front of bravado, if he was manipulated, his killing loads of people doesn't matter. So the anti-woobifiers go "NOPE, NOPE NO COMPLEXITY AT ALL HDU" in response to the Loki fans pointing out all his possibilities for complexity and squeeing about how he's innocent, instead of going "well, yeah, sure, but that's still a really evil thing to do."

I actually mostly see the anti-woobifiers complaining about the woobifiers pretending Loki is completely innocent, but rarely see the woobifiers actually saying that. But maybe you and I visit different parts of the fandom.
