I haven't seen the show yet but I get kind of annoyed that now it seems any effeminate gay male presented in the media is automatically just your "stereotypical queen". Effeminate gay men do exist out in the real world and are much more than just a stereotype even if they do share some (or a lot) of the traits associated with those stereotypes. Again though I haven't seen the show so I can't really comment on this particular character but nuance and three-dimensional personalities isn't something I really expect from a Ryan Murphy backed sitcom.

Your last sentence is really all that needs to be said, it's not so much that the character is an effeminate gay man as much as it's a Ryan Murphy effeminate gay man so there's really not much beyond the stereotype being played up for laughs.

This. Even though this show is likely terrible, or simply not my type of humour, it bugs me that instead of asking for more variety of characters in general, some people would rather that "incorrect" portrayal be gone entirely. Why not have all the variety, even the stereotypes, just to normalise it already until being a flaming queen or butch dyke (or even "safely" femme really) raises none of the eyebrows.

Oh, but then it'd be the "jock" stereotype or the "bear" or the "S&M biker" and on and on and on. Yes, there are people who don't fit into the stereotypes, but a lot of these are borne out of gay culture and the roles people have chosen to adopt. Why is it always that taking up a role is a bad thing? If you want to dress and act like a 50's housewife or a butch woman, have at it. Fuck the people ho say otherwise.

Yup. I think it would be maybe more correct to say they have a camp personality rather then being effeminate. Most of the "girly" men I meet IRL don't really have campy interests or anything*, and when they look like a typical guy the more effeminate mannerisms actually makes them pretty endearing. I'd like to see more guys like that.

Also I'd like to see more guys like the gay couple from the Sarah Silverman Show. =P

*Not that there's anything wrong with that- it's just that whenever there's a gay character it seems that the camp gay is the one that must always be a character somehow.

So much this. I go out of my mind when gays and straight allies call any gay person or character "a stereotype". Even worse when they say "people like that are the reason gays are hated". As if hate were reasonable; don't fucking excuse that shit. It's even worse when it's a real person like gay YouTube celebs than when it's a fictional character like Bryan, but still. Lots of gay people are like this, and lots of gay characters are not these days, so we don't need to go denying the campy gay their representation.
