+1

(Anonymous) 2012-10-03 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
To be fair, it is a fairly political novel (and the musical follows suit).

Considering that Fox news politicized Cars 2 of all things...

Yes I am excited.

...I laughed. But then I cringed, because if this happens I'll probably hear about it from my Dad.

I was going to say that Fox News would refuse to admit they actually are aware of something so "snooty" and "liberal-new-york-big-city" as a musical based on a french novel. But, on the other hand, they do hate to miss anything that can be seen as a threat to their party line.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-03 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't think of that. I'm still annoyed they keep showing Anne Hathaway as Fantine in the previews. Fantine doesn't make the musical for me. Valjean, Javert, and Eponine make the musical. You fuck them up, you're fucking up most of the songs. Grrr.

"I Dreamed a Dream" is one of the most iconic songs tho.

One more for the party... and now I'm hoping for popcorn flavored vodka.

Wonder if it's any good

politicizing a musical about the revolution of the working classes against the wealthy? however could they do such a thing?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-03 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously, this. I don't doubt that Fox News will say a lot of stupid things about it, but politicising it? Erm, I'm pretty sure good old Victor started it all...

(Anonymous) 2012-10-03 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the OP means they'll find a way to make it the other way around.

[identity profile] checkerblob.livejournal.com 2012-10-03 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
It really bothers me how any discussion of a story on a political level is a sign of "taking things too seriously or whatever"- guys, fiction is SUPPOSED to make a statement! Certainly, it doesn't have to, and certainly, you can just enjoy the story, but often it does, and while I am a D- literature fan and aren't intimately familiar with this story, it sounds pretty fucking political already.

"Shall we fight for the right to a night at the opera now?"

See, I've always loved how fucking pathetic these revolutionaries were. In the musical at least they have no real support, they get mowed down and they ultimately accomplish nothing. So if they keep it honest to the original I will lol if anyone compares them to modern movements. If they "beef up" the ABC crowd to reflect more favorably on modern movements I will be pissed.

No idea why but the "Obamacare" on that screen cap really made me crack up. The rest of the captions are but funny but "Obamacare" is what really sold me on the image.
