most people who id as ~~asexual~~ on the internet actually have massive issues with themselves/their body/intimacy/relationships but god forbid you actually say that because you're totes oppressing them.

Fixed that for you

yeah, you're right. the rising popularity of id'ing as asexual just gives people an excuse for their issues instead of having to face them. plus they get to wank about how they're totally queer.

Everyone was screaming and crying about how bisexuals were fakes and liars and snowflakes full of issues 5 years ago. It will pass, grasshopper. And the people screaming and crying about asexuality now will look just as dumb 5 years later, as people who screamed that bisexuality is fake do now.

*eyeroll* does anyone else read people like the anons above as insufferably prattish dickheads that think making gross insensetive generalizations about large groups of people somehow makes them edgy and smart and not insufferably prattish dickheads?

no, god forbid you say that because it's a fucking stupid opinion.

i've seen asexuals with those problems and usually they'll either come to a conclusion that they're not actually asexual or that those issues are separate from their sexuality.

(frozen comment) GOOD MORNING STARSHINE

[personal profile] tyger66 2012-10-08 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, I'll be the first to admit that I have a metric fuckton of issues with intimacy/relationships/etc, but most of that is actually a result of a lifetime of emotional abuse and is completely unrelated to my sexual orientation.

And anyway, EVERYONE has issues. Would you say that a transgendered person's issues with their body or intimacy is something to be trivialized?

(frozen comment) Re: GOOD MORNING STARSHINE

(Anonymous) 2012-10-08 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
*groan* It's transgender, not transgendered. You're in a rant about sexuality; get this shit down or get out.

(frozen comment) Re: GOOD MORNING STARSHINE

(Anonymous) 2012-10-08 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I've heard both variations used far and wide. Words are important, of course, but not to the point where I think it's productive that people that don't have the dictionary lexicon of special terminology memorized be excluded from expressing their thoughts.

[personal profile] tyger66 2012-10-09 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry. I'm not claiming to be any kind of expert, and some of my friends refer to themselves as transgendered, so I assumed that was the way it is said. I'll try to get it right in the future.

May I ask why the -ed is an issue? (sincere question. I want to know why so I can avoid being wrong/offensive in the future.)

Yes, it's transgender, and sexuality =/= gender.

Pretty much everyone on the goddamn planet has some sort of issues with themselves/their body/intimacy/relationships/etc at some point. Show me someone who denies having any sort of issue like that at any point, ever, in their entire lives, and I'll show you a liar. Or a robot in disguise, either one.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-08 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
well yeah. and most people seek help for those issues instead of creating new and new ~labels~ for themselves so that they can hide behind saying they're xyzromantic wtfeversexual blahsensual queerplatonic carrots and you're totally disrespecting them if you tell them they should get help for their issues.

WORD.

"gray a/gray ace"
"sex-repulsed"
"sex-negative"
"genophobic"
"libidoist"
"non-libidoist"

These are the labels I've seen for the first time today to add to the exponentially growing number of stupid permutations of identity some people insist on concocting for themselves. Mulitply all these together enough and we're bound to reach the point where any given self-identifying asexual can come up with their own unique label.

And then they'll turn around and give you shit for not knowing the exact meaning of their own particular variation of asexuality, when the gradations are so meaningless that I'm 90% sure that most asexuals don't know themselves. Every new label, every new modifier, every new tag makes me roll my eyes and wish that these people would just fuck off and sort their lives out.

I often feel afraid, to ask questions about asexuality. I fear I'll be seen as ignorant or worse. I just want to ask a question and not judge.

However I fear I may get jumped on.

Yeah, pretty much.

And I'm an asexual who really doesn't have any body/intimacy issues, other than not having a sex drive in any sense.
