Yeah... there is no earthly good reason anyone would want to be a Ty Lee to someone else's Azula, so if that's what you see yourself as, that could be the problem.

Yeah, personally, while I think there was a time I was on the Tyzula wagon on rewatching the show more recently the pairing as pretty much soured in some ways to me. I guess as crack it can be amusing but imagining it as canon..... eehhhhhh.

Watching how she 'recruited' Ty Lee from the circus is pretty amazing but also disturbing. Ty Lee knows whats up. Azula will make her life difficult or painful if she doesn't do as she says. So her defining moment was standing up against her for Mai, her friend. Probably her only true friend despite their differences. Mai was worth the risk for Ty Lee- and maybe Mai standing up like that even inspired her too, despite knowing what might happen.

Granted I doubt OP is actually exactly like Azula anyway. Maybe OP just feels like she's hardly the nicest person or a bit messed up and she wants someone who loves her anyway- like fanon!Ty Zula does.

I doubt there's many people as extreme as Azula though, they're out there (and thankfully can't shoot lightening), but the chances are slim IMO that OP is exactly like her anyway.

Problem is the OP is saying they want someone who loves them like Ty Lee does...which is honestly incredibly unhealthy and *bad* for the person on Ty Lee's side of things - even if the OP isn't as bad as Azula, because it generally means standing there and taking whatever 'Azula' dishes out.

Speaking as someone whose been *in* that position in a relationship like that it does a very, very bad number on you.

Remember, Tylee eventually turned against Azula. How's about instead of glorifying your shitty behavior and going "I just need to find the perfect doormat to put put with my rabid and selfish personality," you try being less of a jerk?

...You want someone who has to be blackmailed into being with you, and putting up with your abusive behavior? Yeah, not going to happen - at least, not with anyone whose healthy.

To clarify, I want someone to love me even though I have mental disorders, and someone that will see through the disorders to see who I am, and not just an illness. I'm personally nothing like cannon Azula, I'm more like Aang underneath my illnesses.

Then you might want to take another look at the comparison you decided on. Their relationship in canon was unhealthy, and actually pretty abusive. Azula had to blackmail Ty Lee into joining her for a reason, and that's a pretty good indication of what their relationship as a whole was like.

I mentioned up-thread, in reply to someone else, that a relationship like Tyzula really ends up boiling down to the 'Ty Lee' having to stand there and take whatever the 'Azula' dishes out...And I've been there. For the person being 'Ty Lee' it's very, very bad for your mental [and possibly physical] health.

I dunno, I can understand that feeling. When it's a choice between a bunch of characters who are all basically pure heroes, with ones like Azula as the only ones with serious issues, I can see why you'd gravitate more towards the people who the narrative explicitly identifies as being messed up.

But in that case, why Azula and not Zuko? If you're really 'like Aang deep down', you seem more like her sad, angry, fucked up but genuinely decent and sincere brother. Seems more like you want more of an Iroh for a friend.

I can still see why you'd first identify with Azula, though! I'm sure you wouldn't actually want someone to be in the same position as Ty Lee, since you seem to be aware that their relationship was horribly unhealthy.

What about their relationship makes it your "ideal" relationship? Their canon friendship was entirely toxic.

Um, guys? I'm pretty sure OP is talking about fanon Tyzula, where Azula is just a ~troubled soul~ in need of some love, and Ty Lee puts up with her insanity long enough to 'fix it' and make her all better.

Canon Azula is psychotic and abusive (which is why we all love her). But how often is canonical Azula really paired up with Ty Lee in fanfic?

To answer your question, it's extremely rare to find canon!Azula being paired with Ty Lee, which is why I've all but dropped what support I had for the ship. Too much apologizing for Azula's crimes, too much dumbing down both of them (not just Ty Lee), too little of what makes them the characters they are.

What blogs are you following? Everyone I know on tumblr thinks Azula is fucking awesome - as a * villain*.

And? The problem is that Ty Lee is still 'putting up' with what boils down to abusive behavior, and *that's* a bad thing. It may not be the same type of abuse, or as intense as canon Azula, but it 's still there and the OP wanting someone who'd stand there and take? Not okay.

Yes, I realize that the OP probably doesn't mean it that way, or didn't think about it...But fact remains that wanting people to put up with your shit when it gets abusive, isn't a good thing...And with the case of this pairing [and a lot of pairings like this one, tbh] it glamorizes the idea of 'I love you, so I'll stay with you no matter what you do'. In fiction that's fine, but in real life? That tends to both lead to abuse, and lend itself to the idea of 'If you ~really~ loved them you'd stay with them even if they abused you', which is something a lot of abuse victims have to go through when they try to talk about what happened. In some cases that can actually kill off their desire to reach out to someone, and get help leaving.
