Webcomics You've Dropped

Secret #8 reminded me of a terrible old webcomic I used to read but lost interest in when I realized I had outgrown the humor and the series was completely stagnant. Every now and then I check it again and it's amazing - the site's layout and art style are almost the exact same, twelve years after the first page.

We have webcomic rec threads every now and then, but what webcomics have you stopped reading?

I stopped reading Least I Could Do a couple of years ago. Just lost interest in it.

I'm shocked anybody has interest in the first place.

Gary Stu comics should not be that sucessful.

I used to read Piled Higher and Deeper, but I didn't drop it for some big dramatic reason. My hard drive died and when I put together my webcomics bookmarks again, I just forgot to add it again. I suppose I could archive-crawl what's happened since 2008, but I was never that terribly invested in the characters. (Okay, also the author's anti-liberal-arts bias pissed me off sometimes. :< I'm with Randall, every major's terrible.)

Most of the webcomics I don't read anymore just stopped updating in the middle of the story. :( I think the only one I ever quit was Menage a 3.

I read Fanboys back in high school. I stopped. I looked back on it once, had no clue what was going on, and never went back.

I stopped reading Shortpacked after I learned bit of drama with the creator and some comments he made.

I stopped reading The Dreamer....I guess because I got kind of bored. It's good just didn't hold my interest.

As soon as I dropped LJ I stopped reading Dinosaur Comics and XKCD daily - they used to show up in my f-list for super handy daily reads. I never got into the habit of checking the sites or setting up a new feed.

I've dropped a lot of webcomics simply because I forgot to check them. I'll occasionally go back and binge-read (did this with Shortpacked lately), and that seems to be the way to go for me. I need to keep a list, hah.

So You Think You're a Cartoonist? - reading up about the author made me stop reading it...

Hannah is not a boy's name - for obvious reasons.
Kungfounded - it hasn't updated since 2009. I liked Hannah and Kungfounded...

Charby the Vampirate. I got really sick of the author's hypocritical rants. "Oh no, how dare people say I ripped someone off, WahhhWahhh. Oh but someone totally ripped me off because they used -this- term I use!" I cringed so badly at the last one....That term was so generic anyone could have thought of it on their own.(And I'm pretty sure it had been used before she had "created" it)

Manly Men do Manly Things or whatever it was called. I admit i was a little soured by that comic where she made fun of Kuja in the wrong way, but besides that it sort of stopped being funny. To be honest the only really funny parts were the pokemon ones.

I came this close to dropping The Less than Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal. And I mean the last chance I gave it was the update when something big finally happened. Still feeling a bit conflicted about it tbh, but at least now I'm interested in where it's going again.

I'm horrible with names, so I frequently drop a comic halfway through, forget about it, find it years later and think it sounds cool, start to read it, realise I've read it before, maybe it's better now that I'm older, get bored AGAIN and drop it.

That said, I dropped Two Kinds just as the brown dog man joined.

I dropped Questionable Content a long time ago. A few months after Dora and Martin got together, I think. I was still enjoying the humor, but I really wasn't interested in Faye's relationship with Sven and Angus (I'd been rooting for her and Martin to hook up, and I felt like her characterization really took a hit from "cool, smart chick with a few problems" to "confused girl who can't figure out basic human relationships") and I wasn't really a huge fan of Dora and she was being featured quite a bit more often. Hannelore was cute at first but then Marigold was introduced and it was just kind of tiresome.

Every once in a while I check the characters page, thinking I'll get back into it, but there's such a huge cast now and the only character that wasn't a massive tool when I quit was Martin.

Shortpacked. I dropped it out of boredom and inability to care about any of the characters, and after hearing all the wank about it I'm not interested in trying to pick it back up.

Sister Claire. I knew there was a 90% chance I wouldn't like it but I decided to give it a try anyway, but nope, couldn't get past the third chapter.

Lackadaisy, but I DO want to try and pick it up again, since the only reason I dropped it was because I was stressed with schoolwork and didn't have time for all that reading.

Penny Arcade, due to their response to the whole dickwolves thing.

Quiltbag, because Train Wreck Syndrome has its limits.

Looking For Group, because Richard is not nearly as funny as the creator obviously thinks he is.

I also lost patience with Ctrl-Alt-Del's lack of humor very quickly.

Erfworld is the most recent one.

The text updates killed it for me. I would have preferred that they just let the schedule slip rather than post update after update of written backstory stuff between every page we got of actual plot progression. It wasn't even bad backstory, but with new pages of the comic so sparse I really didn't appreciate the distraction.

Penny Arcade, because of the dickwolves crap. (I was particularly disappointed with them because the niece had been such a neat character.)

Order of the Stick, only because it seemed like it had been dropped. By the time I found out it was active again, I couldn't remember where I'd left off, and I don't have the time to reread it all.

I've been thinking of dropping Looking For Group, but every time I'm about to, Richard does something to grab my attention.

The only reason I haven't dropped Sinfest is inertia.

There are a number of comics that are developing so slowly that I just can't follow them anymore. Perhaps I'm just a middle aged guy whose memory can't handle a strip a month.

Templar Arizona: I love the art but how long do I have to wait for an update on that cliffhanger assault.

Dresden Codak: When he does update, it's brilliantly designed, unfortunately you have to wait a month for that to happen.

Flaky Pastry: It's moving forward, but the weekly format really hurts.

Other comics have become so dense I just don't know how to get back into:

Sluggy Freelance: Drowned in the pit of its own backstory.

Girl Genius: How do I even start?

I was tracking Menage A3 for a bit but gave up when I realized it's variations on the same joke.

Although I don't like everything from XKCD, I think he has a really brilliant working pattern of releasing quick one-gag strips on a daily basis, with his occasional, massive panoramic data visualization experiments.
