I don't know how this movie got made. The setup of the psychological damage that those sisters sustained after the death of their parents is so intensely disturbing.

As opposed to any other Disney movie? Off the top of my head, the Rescuers was pretty fucked up, too, and that was decades before Lilo and Stitch came out.

I'm seriously wondering if Lilo & Stitch is the only Disney movie you've ever seen right now.

I found Dumbo worse. Mom behind the bars, rocking Dumbo will never fail to tear out my heart and stomp on it.

...so, is Lilo and Stitch literally the only Disney Movie you've seen or...?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-03 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Out of how many Disney movies?

Maybe you're right, but as far as I can remember the 90's Disney were worse (Judge Claude Frollo...ugh). Disney really loved to push their borders back then.

This is my favourite movie! It actually was a lot darker but they had to cut some stuff out to avoid Mufasa/Bambi's Mom trauma.

I was posting this till I realized you already did. *tips hat*

(Anonymous) 2012-11-03 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Damn, Disney. Just...damn

Also, I read this youtube comment and got even more sad: Pudge was in the beginning of the movie, Lilo was late to class because she was bringing him a peanut butter sandwich. She explains to her teacher that Pudge controls the weather. Later in the movie Lilo explains to stitch that her parents died in a car crash while it was raining. it is implied that she befriends this weather controlling fish in hopes of having good weather so that no one else dies

I never realized that. /sob

I love that movie. Especially Lilo and Noni. They fought, argued and especially loved like sisters. I loved that Lilo could be a brat because all kids are brats every now and then. Loved that she was an Elvis fan. It was such a random thing but still very kid like. Kids that age usually fixate on something, dinosaurs, superheroes, bugs, princesses, etc.. For her, it was Elvis.

This movie <3 ;_; It was so emotionally raw, it shocked me a little. Not that Disney ever really shies away from such dark and emotional themes, but they usually don't portray those situations with so little romanticized softening and sugar-coating. Which sounds a little ridiculous considering it's a movie about aliens landing in Hawaii, but I mean regarding the interaction between the characters and the bluntness of the dialogue.

Suddenly I really want to rewatch this movie. I don't think I've seen it since it was in theaters.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-03 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't need to personally relate to a situation or character in order to be emotionally affected by them, OP. :) Maybe the film just really got to you. It's okay, I find it kind of depressing when people say they couldn't get emotionally invested in something because they "didn't relate". It's not all about you, it's possible to just have sympathy for other people or fictional representations of other people.

Incidentally, I now have "Burning Love" stuck in my head. Fuck you.

I turn into a bucket of tears every time I watch that scene where Nani sings to Lilo. They've only got each other and she's trying to explain that they'll be separated and Lilo's too young and doesn't fully understand. And Stitch and the ugly duckling book too...

Gets me every time. Never won't get me. Families don't HAVE to be whole, dammit!
