s!b who seriously reads tarot cards.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-04 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Obviously, you don't know my family. My grandpa and my great-aunt read tarot cards.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-04 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Me?

And I get paid well to do it too. They don't tell you about the future, but they're a fantastic way to get a new perspective on what you already know.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-04 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
They're also a great tool for generating ideas if you have writer's block. I keep a deck in one of my desk drawers.

Ooh, what an awesome idea! I wish I still had mine. I want to do that as a writing exercise right now.

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2012-11-05 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe you could find an interactive online tarot deck? I remember seeing one years ago.

Maybe, but it's not really the same as having a physical one. For one thing, if I have the internet open I tend to get distracted. I have to either use a fullscreen word processor and do nothing but type, or turn off the computer and go write in a notebook. And also, I impulsively threw away my deck. It was stupid and I regret it in general. :\

Me. And I get paid for it. I give scarily accurate readings not because the cards tell me the future or mystical mumbo-jumbo like that, but because interpreting the cards broadly gives me a framework to interpret the people that I'm doing the reading for. There are hundreds of tiny body-language cues people give me when I'm on the right track, so with each card I can get more and more specific. I don't tell them their future. I tell them what they already knew about their present, but were unable or unwilling to admit to themselves. If you're good enough at reading people, it's almost indistinguishable from psychic powers.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-04 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I've always said "No, I'm not psychic, I'm Observant."

Then they made an adorable TV show about pretty much that statement.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
IOW you are a charlatan. Congratulations.

[personal profile] illiadandoddity 2012-11-05 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
And you're a dick. Congratulations.

BTW, I work at the Renaissance Faire. Anyone who thinks I'm not a part of the show and entertainment, but actually telling their future is stupid. I don't claim to be reading the future. I just interpret tarot cards, and the people that I'm interpreting them for.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-04 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I do, and usually scare the crap out of people who 'don't believe in that shit'.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Certainly not sociopaths like you.

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2012-11-05 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Big words are fun!

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Turtles are fun, but you don't see me hoarding them and making them dance for my amusement.

...don't judge me.

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2012-11-05 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I absolutely judge you for not having an army of turtles that dance at your whim. You are judged.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
I've TRIED, dammit! God knows how hard I've tried! But they just...they amble about, slowly, as if hampered by the burdensome weight of their shells, and ignore any and all instruction that I give.

Do you how many turtles I've gone through, searching for even just one with a spark of talent? DO YOU KNOW?

None of them will dance for me. None. It is a source of great shame. And you have to go and rub it in my face.

Damn you, anonymouslyyours. Damn you.

What? You're against people being ripped off by superstitious crap, so you're a sociopath?
Crack a dictionary, buddy.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, she's not a sociopath because she dislikes tarot. She's a sociopath who happens to dislike tarot. The two are completely separate.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
My dad does. It's his job.

OP

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
a) Quite a number of people

b) That's beside the point.

My husband does. It's just a therapeutic device IMO, I don't really think they're magical and I don't believe in literal clairvoyance, it's just using symbols to give advice to people, and it's fun, why the hate?

I do! They're neat meditation tools, can be good for inspiring creativity, and often have beautiful artwork.
