That entire post just seems like unnecessary fear mongering. I'm sure there are fringe elements and white surpremicist nut jobs out there who would be willing to hurt POC (or even other whites) for supporting Obama, but they are in the severe minority. And all the bullshit about "YOU SHOULD ESPECIALLY BE CAREFUL IF YOU'RE IN TEXAS OR A RURAL AREA". Um, no. There are some really sketchy places in Texas but it's a biiiiig fucking state, and just because somewhere is a rural area doesn't mean it's automatically full of Deliverance-style rednecks just looking for someone to lynch. WTF, people. Also, not everyone who voted for Romney was white, and not everyone who voted for Obama was non-white. So, wtf.

I did see someone mention in the comments that several POC had been hurt for supporting Obama. Does anyone know about this/have links? I've seen some truly, truly awful things said and there are a lot of people showing their ass over things, but I haven't heard about any physical violence. I'm genuinely curious and would like to know if it really has happened. The only thing I've heard about was the woman before the election in Louisiana who was set on fire for wearing an Obama shirt, which was fucking terrible, but it seemed more like an incident involving fringe nutjobs than any sort of systematic "ROMNEY LOST. KILL ALL THE OBAMA SUPPORTERS." action.

The only evidence the OP had was the mention of those drunk college kids from yesterday night...where no one was hurt. All they did was throw rocks at cars and allegedly burned a sign.

Yeah, as someone with friends throughout the state and who was raised in a severely rural area in another state, I totally too offense to it, too. I love the people who assume anywhere in the south or a rural area = TOTALLY RACIST, but anywhere in a northern state/along one of the coasts or a big city = A UTOPIA OF TOLERANCE. Just... wut.

God, I freaking despise those people, personally. I've had to deal with way too many people who, as soon as they found out where I'm from, assume I'm A. Stupid, B. Racist, C. Homophobic, D. Conservative and E. A complete religious nutcase. So I know the exact people your talking about...Though, I do think it's a little funny how they'll spout those views in the areas they're talking about and then complain people are defensive. -facepalm-

Trust me, there are just as many assholes in California if not Texas. They just like to hide behind the ~but we're so enlightened on the coasts~ bs.

what do you prefer? i've been using poc since i see people it applies to using it. i used to just say black people and nobody seemed to get upset about that but i don't know if that's the term of preference anymore.

Personally, I feel that racial minority seems like a decent term when used in context. It's neutral and can be applied to any country, while, a loaded term like 'PoC' is pretty much unacceptable in outside of the West.

Which was annoying, as someone in Louisiana because she could have nearly set off something big. The internet already ran away with it in such a short time. Even after it was revealed as self-inflicted people were still defending her saying someone must have made her do it.
