And references to other works is actually a VERY VERY old practice going back the fucking Iliad. Referencing other works at the very basic level shows that the writer expects his readers to be smart enough to get certain references.

It seems to me that you actually get mad because other people on this site like Homestuck. The people on this site who like Homestuck, on the other hand, don't seem to get at all mad at the people who dislike it; they just play with you.
