If you haven't read it already, you might like the novel It's Superman! by Tom De Haven.

And, yeah, a movie set in the 1930's would be awesome~ ♥
brightblueink: Anders from Dragon Age 2 smiling and looking adorable. (Like a lost puppy)

I'm not a huge Superman fan TBH (but I'm saying this as someone that doesn't read many superhero comics), but I would definitely check that movie out. I love the 20s and 30s.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-18 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I never realized how much I wanted this until now.

Yes, that'd be amazing.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-18 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It's definitely more of a possibility, since Captain America did pretty well for itself. I'd see it.

Retro!Superman stuff is so lovely when it crops up in comics, I'm sure it would fit in a movie too, especially given that newspapers don't work quite the way they used to. Like those old Fleischer cartoons! I mainly remember Lois being uber-badass and classy in them...

[personal profile] littlegreen42 2012-11-18 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I would love to watch a movie like that!

I don't even give a shit about Superman and I think this sounds awesome.

...But Superman was like...a complete and utter dick in the '30's.

That would be a fantastic idea. I wonder why no one else has thought of it.

That would be great and I would absolutely watch it.

Replace Superman with Green Lantern and I'd be all over that. Alan Scott needs his own movie.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-18 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd watch it. On a vaguely related note, I'd really like an Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay movie/preferably miniseries.

I've never been much into Superman, but I'd be game for that if you're talking about a movie. I love stuff set in historical time periods (especially if they're done well), and since I've been reading some of the comics of the Golden Age recently for a paper, it would be awesome to see something like that adapted to film.

Especially if it focused a lot on stuff like labor rights like the first Superman comics did, and he wasn't able to actually fly like the early Superman comics

(Anonymous) 2012-11-18 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Why is this secrete? Even if no one else is particularly interested in that premise (which is pretty cool, so I think some people would be) this doesn't sound like anything that you have to hide.

Huh I'm not a big Superman fan but I would watch the hell out of that.

Being set in a different era could be the new approach that really works for Superman.

I don't even like Superman and I'd watch that movie. Sounds awesome!

TBH, I think Superman as a concept works much better when set in the 30s or so than in the modern world.

[personal profile] light_shade 2012-11-18 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
This is being added to the list of things I didn't know I really wanted. I think this is a concept that could work really well, with all the optimism and cheerfulness that some of those old Golden Age comics had.

Huge Supes fan and this doesn't interest me at all. Not that I wouldn't watch it if it happened, but I don't see the appeal.
terabient: Anime-styled profile pic that is kinda, sorta like me (DC: Superman & Batman - picnic)

[personal profile] terabient 2012-11-18 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I would love to see a 30's era Superman movie. Especially if they were gutsy enough to have him say things like this.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-19 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Kind of OT, but I read Superman and the 1930s and thought of this gem I read a few days ago:

http://www.cracked.com/article_20069_5-classic-superman-comics-that-prove-he-used-to-be-dick.html

(Anonymous) 2012-11-19 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Hell ya! @ period context. Would totally watch this.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-19 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
YAYZ, SUPERMAN SECRET! :) But, sigh, I knew there would be the typical "I don't like Superman" comments popping up. It's interesting people need to preface their comments with it, as if it isn't "cool" to like the character anymore. Not saying this is true for everyone on here but I see it a lot in general, all over the internet. Needless to say, I wish Clark was getting more love! Maybe one day...

Well, to counter all the non-fans, here's me grinning like a fool at your cool Superman secret! I love the idea of a "vintage Superman" movie because I like the era (a huge draw for me, that's part of the appeal).

(Anonymous) 2012-11-19 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
DO WANT.
