I really do hate entitled people like this.

I write fanfiction because I enjoy it and I enjoy sharing it with others. If it doesn't get a lot of attention after I post it, cool. If it does, that's cool too. But I'm not going to expect people to bow down to me and kiss my feet and lavish praise upon me because I wrote something.

People with this kind of attitude are sort of doing fanfiction wrong, I think.

+1

I've been posting fanfic for more than 15 years, and I have never understood the entitled attitudes of some writers. To be honest, I have no idea what the view counts on anything I've ever posted are. Like, I write and throw it out there, and if I get comments or kudos, I'm always pleasantly surprised and happy. But if I post something and don't get a lot of feedback, that's okay too, and I'm certainly not watching the view count go up and working myself up over the fact that people are reading without reviewing. I write because I have a story I want to get out there. If people read it and like it, yay! If people read it and don't like it or just don't have anything to say about it, that's fine! I already accomplished what I set out to do by writing something, and anything that comes after is just a bonus and not expected or necessary.

Thissss. I love writing. A lot of my fics get absolutely ZERO comments because a) I don't tend to crosspost to sixty comms, b) they're uncommon pairings, b) I cannot seem to write porn without an assload of plot.

I love each and every comment I get, even the 'I liked this' ones, because it means that not only did someone read it, they liked it! I don't expect any comments at all, or Tolstoy level word counts on those comments I do get.

I'm still going to write if I get zero comments or if I get 700 comments, and while I am writing because I would probably melt if I didn't, I do hope that maybe somewhere out there someone enjoys something I wrote.
