Today's theme is...Chobits and Angelic Layer! A two-for-one deal, since the AL fandom is tiny. What do you think of the fact that Chobits is required reading material in some university classes in gender and sexuality studies? Do you think that Hideki is the most ignored CLAMP protagonist?

Also, for fun: what kind of angel would you make?!

:O I HAD NO IDEA. Ummm. I guess there could be worse things to analyze? I could see it being interesting but I'm not sure what conclusions one would draw from it.

Hideki struck me as a blander version of Keiichi from Ah! My Goddess, if that's even possible, so: yes!

ANGELIC LAYER! I thought Kaede's angel Blanc was the best ever, and if I ever made an Angel I would probably just re-create Blanc but with a different color palette or something. ~~boring answer is boring~~

That reminds me of a great Retsupurae LP of the Chobits VN (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aVvETNngco): "The first message is 'women are property,' the second message is 'you can treat them like garbage,' the third message is, 'the women you pick up can be treated like garbage."

What? Why?

It's a joke based on

terabient's comment that "I could see it being interesting but I'm not sure what conclusions one would draw from it." If you don't read too deeply into Chobits, it can teach you that...women are property, women can be treated like garbage, and the women you pick up can be treated like garbage.

Hideki was ok. And I thought at first you meant "required" as in it's connected to Angelic Layer what with Kaede being Minoru's sister. XD;; And that Angelic Layer was basically a precursor to the Persacoms.

Anywho, I liked them both, but I prefer Angelic Layer...just because it's such a happy contrast to the depressing nature of Chobits.

My angel would be a fast little sucker who could use a tablet pen to fight with and, if it was legal (though the anime had more angels that could do awesome attacks with weapons), could draw things to use in the environments or something. IDK. XD;; But that'd be fun!!

That sounds like some well-meaning teacher trying to pick books "the kids" like as a break from all the dry theory.

Either that, or a young professor trying to prove her- or himself by "stepping outside of the box" and picking out multimedia references.

I am convinced that Joss Whedon read Chobits before he created Dollhouse. The themes of both shows, most notably powerless woman as sexual fantasy object, except that she's sort of not powerless sometimes when it fits the plot, overlap LIEK WHOA. (I know none of the dolls on Dollhouse were actually robots, but the idea of imprinted fantasy whore who magically loves you works the same way in both.)

That said, I have no idea what to make of Chobits. Some days, I think it's CLAMP's best, most subversive work, and other days, I think they needed some pocket change that body pillow sales would generate. So. Weird.

On the other hand, I thought Joss watched Darker than BLACK before Dollhouse.
