I know you're a troll but I'm responding anyway
The relationship portrayed by Bella and Edward in the books is unhealthy in real life, and abusive. And the BDSM portrayed in 50 Shades is dangerous and borders on abusive, itself.
Now, if it really were just people enjoying these in a fictional context, no one would have a problem. The problem is too many people think that stalking and kidnapping is okay because Edward did it and Bella found it romantic. And the unhealthy relationship in 50 Shades is the last thing that needed to be added the toxic perception most people have of BDSM.
...and, of course, the impact such shitty writing becoming best sellers has had on the publishing industry as a whole, but that's a bit more subjective.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-19 12:39 am (UTC)(link)She's supposed have the option of saying no. That's what a safeword is for. Of course, are safewords ever really explained? No. Are they ever used, for any reason? No, even though Ana thinks that she wants to a few times.
Fuck this book.

Re: I know you're a troll but I'm responding anyway
There's a lot of creepy non-sexual crap in it as well, a lot of which bothers me more than the sex. He tracks her cell phone signal to know where she is at all times, shows up out of the blue at her place of work 100 miles away, and that's even before they become a couple. He later buys her a new car because he gets suddenly obsessed with the idea that her driving her old VW Bug is dangerous, and when she objects he dangles the promise of a relationship more like what she wants as a carrot in front of her to get her to accept it. He writes in an email, "Don't drive your Beetle. I'll know if you do." I had a pretty visceral FUCK YOU reaction to that part.

*with the exception of my parents, who own the vehicle that I drive when I'm home and generally are the only people who get to order me around like that
