This thread.

Way to go, op.

Maybe if you remove the 2 at the end, it will. http://www.abload.de/img/ralph02pmk.png

Anon is right about the usage and meaning of the words in England. You're the only ignorant one here, Canadian.

Zombie arena fights? Forget the troll-rating, whoever in that universe thought zombie arena fights was a good idea gets 0/10 and fails common sense forever.

That's because there are plenty of Americans who, like plenty of Brits, don't give a fuck about sexism and refuse to listen when someone points it out to them.

I assure you, there are people in Britain that think the word cunt is offensive and sexist for exactly the same reasons I've been arguing all through this thread.

Just because they're in the minority there doesn't mean Britain on the whole thinks cunt is an acceptable word.

When a Loki and a Pen get together, they have a baby.

We saw this.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-22 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
They're still speaking English in England. The connotation of 'cunt' = 'vagina' is still there even in England. Therefore, when used in a non-reclamatory or purely-anatomical-descriptor way, it's still a sexist slur.

Hope that helps, shithole.

It's pretty incredible! I think it's a really amazing thing to do, and the part where Emeraude is transforming always has a huge impact on me.

If you want to teach small children something about other cultures, which method would you choose: a lecture with maybe a few pics or a play where the kids can pretend to be from that culture? One of those methods is much more effective and interesting than the other.

Mythological Loki I'm fond of. As far as you can be fond as any of the scary, scary entities in myths.

Thing is though, where the Tiny Toon's people cringed from the attention, here we got the main actress not only becoming a lightning rod for the attention, but reveling in it.

You can call it sexist all you want. It's even true for you where you live. You really need to understand that your views and even the common views of the people where you live do not apply to the whole world. Go ahead and call everybody asshole. Get upset and resort to insults in the face of reason. It's amusing to more than a few of us, judging by the replies.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-22 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
No, people are hating her because she went from a strong, independent amazing woman in the comics to a whiny, impulsive, idiotic, shrewish load in the TV show.

Re: How do you cope with shady things your family do?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-22 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
I used to think that my family didn't have many skeletons in the closet. A family member or two that had a dumb grudge against us, but that was it.

Then my grandmother died and my Dad told me he had to tell me the "family secret" because information would be coming about it soon. (he does genealogy, and was waiting until my grandmother's death to get the court records for this incident out of respect for her.) Turns out, when my dad was a kid, his mother--the one that had just died--had run off with some guy and took him with her. One night, while he was sleeping on the couch and his mom and her lover were in the other room, his dad--my granddad--came into the house, walked back to the bedroom, and shot the guy and killed him. (I can only hope that my Dad didn't actually see the aftermath, he didn't say.)

My grandfather turned himself in, but because this was Texas and a long time ago the judge decided that my grandfather's actions were reasonable because they were to "protect his family" so he got away with it.

My grandma also had twins soon after this. Dad told me one of the twins actually looks like how he remembered the guy looking. So it's quite possible that one of them isn't actually related to my grandfather, but they don't know about it.

tl;dr--my grandmother was an adulteress, my grandfather was a murderer, and one of my uncles might actually be my father's half-sibling--and his own twins half-sibling--but doesn't know about it.

also echoing the "try not to get involved with your Dad's stuff" thing. You don't want to be an accessory.

I will be thinking about this the next time I'm queuing and giggling to myself. Thanks, nonny!

Re: First time baking brownies - take two

[personal profile] cloud_riven 2012-11-22 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
Peanut butter. And grinding sugar til it's fine (berry sugar basically). I also like a layer of cheesecake under it, or mixed in like a weirdo marble brownie.

I like cakes (including loaf ones and bundt ones), and am in love with perfecting pound cakes, and getting chocolate cake just the right kind of dense:moist. Pies are also awesome, although I still can't make a decent crust from scratch.

Shortbread and scones are also things I tend to bake on a regular basis since they're so easy, and it's guaranteed to be eaten by everyone pretty much immediately.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-22 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
Or the word homo. Apparently it's really offensive in America, but here it's just a word (the "official" word, even, the one all media uses) for a homosexual person, usually a man. True, it can be used as an insult, but pretty much all words can depending on your tone and intent.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-22 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
But...you're not. In fact, you're the only one who did resort to "no you" arguments. Oh, and "BUT IT'S STILL A VAGINA" which is destined to live on in this comm for a very long time because something that fucking stupid always does.

I've been a fan of her since I was a kid, so I don't want to be negative about her, but...I'm starting to get a little worried she's encouraging them too much. It's making me nervous.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-22 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
...Actually, I wouldn't blame you for giving thanks to be rid of the Pilgrims -- but then you still had a bunch of Puritans hanging around England being No Fun At All, so it really didn't do you any good.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-22 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
I'd love to continue this because you are hilarious, but I have to get on the tube and go to work. Oops! Can I say tube? Or is that sexist because women have fallopian tubes?

Bootleg video games? No, I guess that would arguably be more objectionable than the "non-hard" drugs.

Wait, I have it -- illegal ticket scalping.

Oh man, you must have caught it at a good moment because last time I checked that tag, the things I saw, in order, were: horse vaginas, OC, OC, Pony Ask-Blog, horse vaginas, OC-Pony Ask-Blog, OC, OC, horse vaginas, Big Mac's speckled dick, Pinky Pie meme, horse vaginas.

If you're translating the names of China literally, you know China in Chinese doesn't mean "Middle Kingdom" right? China (PRC) means "Central-Hua People's Republic" (中华人民共和国) and China (Taiwan) means "Central-Hua People's Republic" (中華民國). One name has more words than the other but they both mean the same thing.

Or, maybe you're talking about the colloquial name for China, 中國/中国. Guess what, the name has nothing to do with the equator. 中 doesn't only mean middle, 中 also means center. So 中國 actually means "Center Country". Why center? Because there were the Yi people to the west, the Man people to the South, the Rong to the west and the Di to the north. The Hua (华/華) people, the Chinese, lived in the country in the center of all these other peoples. This name makes perfect sense and I've no idea why you think it has anything to do with the equator.

Oh, and the name for Japan, 日本, means "Sun Origin" not "Sun Book." Why sun origin? Because it's the easternmost country in Asia until you sail across the Pacific and hit North America, which Asia didn't know about until fairly recently. So guess what, to the rest of Asia (and the world at the time), it looked like the sun rose from Japan. That's why its name is "Land of the Rising Sun." It's poetic.

Next time, get your facts straight before giving us all lectures about how country names are silly and their names need to be changed.
