Favorite musical soundtracks in movies and TV!

So, it's all well and good to discuss your favorite songs in musicals and whatnot, or main title themes that play during credits, but how about specific non-lyrical tracks from the background musical scores for various movies and TV shows, especially ones that aren't musicals?

I'm thinking of John Williams at the moment (especially "Luke and Leia" and "Han Solo and the Princess") but you needn't cite something THAT prestigious. Just tracks that are really beautiful but which no one pays attention to because they're background music.

I also have a huge weakness for "Madman with a Box" and "Sad Man with a Box" from Doctor Who, "They Called It" from The Avengers, "Why So Serious?" from The Dark Knight and "I'm Lost" from Lilo and Stitch, to name a few.

"I Am The Doctor" from DW, even if I don't like the show.
"Hero" from Kung Fu Panda and "More Cannons!" from KFP2, "Resolution" from ParaNorman, "Sugar Rush Showdown" from Wreck-It Ralph, "The Last Agni Kai" and "Azula's Theme" from The Last Airbender (and a lot of music from when they're in the Earth Kingdom), the music played during the spa scene in "Ponyville Confidential" in FiM, and finally, "Test Drive" and "Welcome to Berk" from HTTYD.

John Williams ♥ - oh man, too many to count. I grew up with classical music and have a huge weakness for orchestral soundtracks (and a big collection of OST CDs *g*).

Drosselmeyer's Theme from Princess Tutu. I love the music from The Nutcracker, so hearing The Nutcracker March in a minor key so it can be an ominous theme is pretty fantastic.

I also really like The Battle Between Light and Darkness from Chrono Crusade. I think it's the piano that does it for me? IDK, I didn't like the anime all that much but the soundtrack is fantastic. It sounds even better without the show to me, for whatever reason.

And this is actually a video game, but pretty much ANYTHING from the Baten Kaitos OST is amazing and beautiful.

I liked the LOTR music a lot as a teenager but I think I overdosed on it since I get bored of it pretty quickly these days....

I've always loved a lot of the background music from Repo Man (tbf I love everything from Repo Man, it's easily my favorite movie). The film gets a lot of credit for its great use of punk songs in the soundtrack, but the non-lyrical background music (created by the Plugz, a Mexican-American punk band from LA) is really good too. It's just got this really spacey, desolate, atmospheric, jangly, Western vibe that really fits the tone of the movie that I really dig.

I especially remember getting really caught up in it during the launch scene.

I am still so disappointed that X-ray Dog Music doesn't release their film scores to the general public. I would buy the shit out of any albums they do.

Let's talk about someone who hasn't been mentioned yet - Yoko Kanno. I love her work in Escaflowne, Cowboy Bebop and the GitS anime series. If I have to pick a favorite, it's probably the Cowboy Bebop OST. Here's the Cowboy Bebop's opening theme, Tank!, and one of my favorite instrumentals, Space Lion.

Even though this scene's background music has lyrics, the art is incredible. Definitely one of the best scenes from Cowboy Bebop.

Like everything Susumu Hirasawa does. I've been listening to this song on repeat lately.

Off the top of my head, I really like Thor's The Compound", Akibaranger's "Pain is strength!", K-ON!'s "Isoge ya Isoge!", and "Perspective of a toy poodle" in Amagami SS (I can't find that song, but I like most of the other songs as well...).

Most of my mp3 player is actually filled with just video game OSTs!

I agree on John Williams. Pretty much everything by him.

Everything from the Thor soundtrack. That is hands down my favorite from the Marvel scores. Also Captain America March from Captain America.

The Star Trek: First Contact score. Really a lot of Star Trek music is awesome.

Most of the New Who scores. Favorite tracks are the trailer from season 3, Onward, I Am the Doctor, and the theme from the last two parter of season 4.

From the Harry Potter movies: Fawkes' theme, A Window to the Past, Double Trouble, Lily's Theme, Dragon's Flight

Everything from Game of Thrones, but particularly the Main title theme. Gorgeous.

Battlestar Galactica- all of it. Just all of it.

Pretty much everything from the first Jurassic Park movie. I hear certain strains of those trumpets and start to tear up.

Robin of Sherwood (aka Robin Hood) had some wonderful background music, but Clannad did all of it, so.

The entire OST of 1492: Conquest of Paradise by Vangelis of the Chariots of Fire and Blade Runner fame. His music is easily the best thing in the whole film.

"Farewell" from the Pocahontas soundtrack. It's got such a beautiful buildup and climax. I get chills every time.

"Roof Jump" and "Flying Home" from Kick Ass, too. Shame they're so short.
