The mass effect fandom has been decent to me :( they're not perfect, and the ME3 ending shit was kind of embarrassing, haha but as long as I stay off BSN it's all good.

I find avengers fans annoying ATM. And hetalia's always annoying. And homestuck. But I'm not in those fandoms thank god

Harry Potter always seems to trump every other fandom on every dimension of "you're making me look bad". *sigh*

But as for some others...well, it doesn't apply any more but back a few years ago in the days when I kinda-sorta shipped Doctor/Rose in Doctor Who, I was always mortified someone would find out and I would get painted with the same brush as the other fans O.O

There was also Avatar The Last Airbender, but I mainlined the series in about two weeks so I never had the opportunity to build up much annoyance. More like lollery.

World of Warcraft. Pretty much everyone is annoying or pissed off about something stupid. God forbid Blizz doesn't cater to each and every one of it's 9mil fanbase!

An oldie, but goodie is Sailor Moon. Or at least, the ye olde days of Sailor Moon wank where cosplayers would shred the shit out of each other in constant competition to prove who was the most accurate/real life depiction of Sailor Moon.

OMG, yes, Bioware.

I love Dragon Age but the fandom makes me sad because almost all of the female characters are despised.

The thing I like about Dragon Age is that there's a lot of morally ambiguous characters, very few of the villains are totally evil, they're human beings.

The thing that pisses me off about the fandom is the double standard there is between male and female characters. If a male character makes a mistake, is broody/grumpy, or behaves in morally ambiguous manner; the fandom adores them and just goes on about what a great character they are. If a female character does any of those things, she gets bashed and hated to the high heavens.

I feel like I'm one of the ten people in my fandom who love the women of Dragon Age. I am such a fan of Anora, Morrigan, and Velanna; but alas, most of the fandom rejects them as 'bitchs'.

For me, it's a tie between the My Little Pony and the Homestuck fandoms. Not to say that it's bad, since I am a fan of both, but there are some fans who really like to push the premise onto other people, regardless if they like it or not.

I'm not embarrassed by any of my fandoms in general, but I am embarrassed by my OTP's fanbase.

I also don't like admitting that I like Justin Bieber, but that's less because I'm embarrassed by other fans of him and more because I'm sick of getting jumped on by haters.

I tend to stay out of big fandoms so I usually miss the worst of it. I've spent some time on BSN, though, and...oh man everything's an extreme for those people. They either love something or hate something. THERE IS NO IN-BETWEEN. And although why I haven't experienced myself, I've heard people say they were told on tumblr that "Male Hawke in a relationship with Anders is canon, and everything else isn't canon" and all sort of BS about what's a "canon" playthrough that was so painfully incorrect I wanted to bash my head into the wall.

Oddly enough, the Mass Effect general threads on 4chan, of all places, is one of the chiller places I've hung out on that site. And one of the few places in /v/ or /vg/ that people won't freak out if you don't go out of your way to hide that you're female. It's...weird.

I've also heard really crazy things about the Avatar/Korra fandom but I've mostly stayed out of those despite liking the show.

Homestuck, to an extent. I haven't actually experienced the ~sooper awful~ parts of the fandom a lot, but enough people have and say things like "OMG THIS FANDOM IS CRAY" and really seem to think all Homestuck fans are like that =/

Also, the A:TLA canon, particularly those who ship Zuko/Katara. That's my OTP for that fandom but...I've been called a "Zutaran" before by fellow shippers (of that pairing) and I'm just like "...not sure I want to have that label...yeah"

Homestuck. Definitely Homestuck. I love and hate the fandom respectively for awesome fanwork but having so many obnoxious, preachy fans who keep trying to convert every piece of the internet ever all missionary style. I wonder how many of these folk actually step back and realise that no, they really aren't doing a good job of pitching the comic at all. Particularly when they talk about how someone's reasons for not being into it, or disliking it, are wrong.

The "let me tell you about homestuck" meme is beautiful to me.

And also weirdo stans. Like the Cronus fans for instance, who go about insisting he's just a misunderstood totally-not-a-walking-sexual-harassment-violation all creepy like.


Oh, and MLP and Hetalia fandom. They're both so terrible.

eta: And Teen Wolf. Above commenter above before the one before me reminded me. If I want to be specific, the Derek/Stiles fanbase is especially awful and full of passive racism and outright misogyny. Just. No. No, Teen Wolf fandom. No.

Oh, and quite a few Sherlockians scare me. I like the show, it's great, but...

Bioware. Both "sides" of the fandom. The guy-dominated parts are pretty much a hive of scum and villainy, hating on the creators for having queer characters and writing women who aren't doormats. The girl-dominated parts are full of people wanking about how Bioware isn't doing enough and how dare them not have enough people representing x. I don't think Bioware is perfect, they make shitty choices and shitty games, but I wish fans would acknowledge that they're doing more for lgbt representation in games than any other company in the industry.

The tumblr-parts of Elder Scrolls fandom are pretty embarrassing, too. Lots of "Ulfric is just like Hitler and if you play a Nord you are a secret Nazi!" wankiness. I'm fully convinced that the people who participate in that shit are morons who have never played another TES game and didn't bother paying attention to ANY of the in-game lore.

I don't expect every player to know the ins and outs of CHIM or exactly how the mantling of Lorkhan worked, but ffs if you're going to argue about whether or not Talos deserves to be worshiped YOU SHOULD FUCKING KNOW THESE THINGS FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUU-

It's pretty sad when the average post on 4chan has more relevant lore info than an entire 300 post tumblr argument.

I'm the first one to say Supernatural, really?

75% of the fandom is perfectly tolerable compared to, say, bronies or Bioware. The other quarter, though, make me cringe in shame whenever I openly associate myself with SPN fandom. This includes J2, just about all RPS writers for this fandom, and the Wincest contingent (which INCLUDES those who write Sam/Dean that isn't technically incest, sorry guys). I don't include Destiel not because I ship it but because they are actually fans who approach fandom in a positive, non-obnoxious way. (Personal opinion, obviously.)

To borrow a phrase from a commenter above, I'd cheerfully send them off on an ice floe as well.

Big Two Comics.

To be fair, the fandom has some spectacular, wonderful, amazing subsections. But they also have the worst, most sexist, racist, bitter, small-minded, angry jerks. A number of whom are now working in the industry themselves in positions of creative power(!)

Sherlock Holmes. I only like ACD's canon and some adaptations done before 2000. But everyone always assumes I mean BBC's show or the RDJ movies if I say anything and the BBC show's fans are known far and wide as rabid psychos. I don't have anything against BBC's Sherlock or RDJ's, it just isn't what I'm a fan of and I also wish people wouldn't associate me with fans that they look down on.

Sherlock. I've needed to take a step back from the whole thing because of the annoying fandom.
