Lines that have become embedded in your vocabulary

[personal profile] castle_anon 2012-12-11 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
We all have those favorite lines from fannish things that we love, but it takes a particularly special line, I think, to become one that interjects itself into every day speaking. Here are two of mine.

"...I just can't seem to care." -- Angel, Angel
"(That really) grates my cheese." -- Xander, Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Sadly, I have none from Castle just yet. What are yours?

"Everything's coming up Milhouse!" - The Simpsons

For some reason, "Am I mumbling, mother?" from Tangled.

I hope I haven't quoted it wrong.

"You get up my nose," Molly in Neuromancer. I realize it's an actual expression but it isn't used where I live so that's the only reason I end up saying it.

Most of mine are from Arrested Development. I'm one of those fans, yes.

STEVE HOLT! "I've made a huge mistake." You get the idea.

"Have fun storming the castle" - Princess Bride.

I say it whenever someone is going out to do errands.

"Well that's less than ideal" - Noah Bennet, Heroes, but bland enough and from long ago enough that no one knows I'm quoting anything.

I also get a lot from Casablanca - "poor, corrupt government official" is what I jokingly say is my career goal, I legitimately got to say "There are some parts of Mexico I don't advise invading" a couple of days ago, and "He's just like any other man, only more so" is one of my favorite not-quite-insult, not-quite-rave about people (or things if I want to paraphrase).

"What the frig?!" From Yami Marik in theYu-Gi-Oh Let's Play. I've been using that line for almost a year now. XD

A lot of stuff from MST3k. I've even bastardized lines from MST3k and MST3k movies to point that only my SO knows what I'm talking about.

Oh, and from Home Alone: "Look what you did you little jerk." and "You're what the French call les incompetents."

And, from Cannibal! The Musical: "You sonofabitch Humphrey." For when someone says they can do something but then fucks it up.

"Well, [x] died." -- Gossip Girl fandom (don't ask)
"Oh, well, I tried." -- Blair, Gossip Girl

Thought of another one:

"Mother's ASS!" - Adam/Adina, Sorority Boys. I usually only say that one under my breath. And only Doofer's "I'm gettin' a BACON BURGER" when the situation is appropriate.

From Arthur (the Dudley Moore version)

Susan: Arthur, take my hand.

Arthur: But that would leave you with one.

Arthur's line comes in handy more often than you might think. :)

"time not important. only life important."

i always replace the nouns here, ie. homework not important, only sleep important. but it's like permanently burned into my register.

and the token "burn life's house down, with the lemons" whenever someone mentions life giving you lemons.

My hobby is to sneak quotes into conversations... Some of them people recognize others they don't.

I can't think of any right now though... Most of them are either from Whedon shows, TBBT or Doctor Who though.

Ever since I saw the Matrix, I keep saying Cypher's line, "You scared the b'Jesus out of me." I dunno it just made me laugh at the time and now I like to say it when I get freaked out about something, lol.

Most of mine are painfully obvious.

"We are just too pretty for God to let us die." Mal, Firefly

"Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!" Wash, Firefly

"Oh, shiny!" Kaylee, Firefly

Also, "You're pretty good." Ocelot, Metal Gear Solid 3.

Edited to add: Douchenozzle from Supernatural.

I've thought this more than said it, but "God save us from half the people who think they're doing God's work." Dean, again from Supernatural.

To shut up each other up in the middle of an argument, the ex-roomie, the ex-husband or I would suddenly interject, "You sure got a purty mouth" into whatever was going on.

Yeah, so, we were quoting Deliverance....

Another ex-roomie liked to quote Ghostbuster's "Back off man, I'm a scientist", usually when she was doing on-site biology research. Or just showing off.

"You're a sad, strange little man" from Toy Story shows up in my under-the-breath comments when I'm walking away from customers.

I also will sometimes shout, "Waffle! Waffle! Waffle!" (from Doctor Who, the Fourth Doctor), instead of swearing.

About 40% of all Toby Ziegler's lines from The West Wing.

"There's literally nobody in the world I don't hate right now", "I'm gonna be over here by the bar, drinking a lot, if anyone needs me", "I know I could give a damn", "Did you fall down and hit your head on something hard?", "What, you want to tempt the wrath of the whatever from high atop the thing?", "I don't understand did you trip over something?", "We are gonna protect the MUPPETS!" are just a very, very, very few of them.

Seriously, Toby is...unique in my heart among all other fictional characters in the entire universe. There is no one I relate to in the realm of vocal expression so frickin' hard as I do with him.

Also, about 30% of all Xander's lines in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but that comes and goes.

Also, I do this whenever I want to say something stupid and need a pre-emptive excuse:

I picked up saying 'son of a bitch' a lot more after watching Star Trek: Enterprise and Red vs Blue. I also got 'fuckberries' from the latter, which I used for the longest time without remembering where I got it from.
