This made me smile because I just finished watching the first episode with Mulan and Aurora before seeing this secret, and I already ship them. ;)

I can't really compare the two ships though, because sadly, I haven't watched Xena. Big fail on my part, I know...

I'll never understand you whiny baby fans who can't ship something if it's not canon, or insist that it must be canon because of xyz. It's ok to ship it if it's not canon on your screen.

Wow love Mulan's updo.

Me too, Mulan is gorgeous and stylish as hell in this show.

As for the actual secret...NGL, I was waiting for Li Shang to show up and then he never did. Near the end of the mid-season finale I started to think, "Maybe these two wouldn't be so bad together". But even if Li Shang shows up at some point and Mulan/Li Shang and Phillip/Aurora became a thing I wouldn't be heartbroken. I don't see them on the same level as Xena and Gabrielle, I guess that's why.

If that does happen I feel bad for the Mulan/Aurora shippers, but...I've shipped plenty of non canon things, so it doesn't have to stop anyone from having their fun.

I fail to see how the ship was sunk. So they're off on a quest to find Phillip, a lot of stuff can happen on a quest like that. Sexy stuff.

And that scene with the heart...that more explicit than many other "hints" that people see in shows

Mulan's hair is boss. And, really, they've got a Xena/Gab vibe? That's...almost enough to make me care enough to watch the show. But only almost.

They've got an 'early days' Xena/Gabrielle vibe, where Xena is crotchety and grumpy but still badass and Gabrielle is a bit whiny and often needs rescuing but is still headstrong and somewhat likeable. I doubt it will get as epic as Xena/Gabrielle got though, which is fine by me cuz I find the both of them to be a bit flat with the whole 'WE CAN'T GET ALONG BUT OUR LOVE FOR PHILLIP BINDS US TOGETHER' thing. Meh.

I think it's Once Upon a Time, a show I don't know much about beyond it's a modern-day fairytale mashup TV show.

I'm a little confused on why Mulan's there since that's a legend and not a fairytale and I'm pretty sure there's plenty of Chinese folktales to choose from but oh well...

First, who cares what the writers do. Expecting a femmeslash pairing to become canon in a disney show is setting yourself up for disappointment. I don't see anything like that happening for at least another ten years. They are too damn mainstream conservative "family values". You want to ship them, slap an AU on the fantasy and ship them the way slash shippers have been doing since time immemorial (or 1970).

Secondly, I don't think they are out of the picture. They've gone off to rescue Prince Phillip or whatever his name was. I see them doing it -- but probably next season. So there will be lots of juicy SleepingMulan to come.

I'm hoping they pull a Tara/Willow.

I mean Modern Family is on ABC, and they have a gay couple with kids so I don't consider it out of the question.

However the rational part of me knows that all I'm doing is setting myself up for failure.

Ugh, Mulan and Aurora are both so boring, though. Individually and together.

Not that Phillip will make it any better, but blah, I'm still disappointed.

Sort of off topic, but I was listening to my school librarian and old science teacher (both conservative-looking women in their 40s with kids) discuss this show, and they were both adamant that Mulan and Aurora were totally in love, it was adorable.

Well it's somewhat established that they both have a thing for Phillip, so you could always ship them as a threesome. I'm aware that it can be less satisfying, but you might surprise yourself. (I had a really rare OTP that conflicted with canon, but adding the one's canon love interest to make it an OT3 actually turned out pretty awesome.) And by OT3 I mean a balanced, open, and loving relationship between all three, and not the tacky one guy gets two women who focus on him cliche fantasy.

I did this with Doctor Who and it was the best decision of my life.

I just assume that they're going to end up in a bisexual poly relationship with Phillip. I mean, at this point they are literally the ONLY people in their entire land.

If this becomes canon, I will die of squee. :D :D :D
