And there are a lot other bronies... hon. Still doesn't change MY point. That that was a single, less than intelligent, part of the fandom. And your bronies are filth only proves me right. That you're using that part of the fandom as a sample of the whole, which is at best inaccurate and at worst willfully ignorant. I don't know anything about what happened than what you've told me and frankly I don't WANT to know. I've learned way too much about the absolute awfulness humankind is capable of to want to spend my Christmas break looking up more. But you know what? That will never make me think all humans, or even most of them are awful. Same with bronies, for the most part, it has been one of the kindest, sanest, most welcoming fandoms I have ever had the pleasure to be associated with. Want some examples? My apologies for sending you to the internet's timesink, finding and compiling more examples takes more time than I'm willing to justify spending on an online argument over fandom. Do us both a favor, take your head out of your ass, read the examples, maybe watch an episode of the show if you hadn't already and spend some time in the non awful parts of the fandom. the fact that rape is being brought up does not mean that other "less important" social issues should not be discussed at the same time, like the issue of prejudice. you remind me of those people who try to say that "unless you are a queer, disabled, PoC woman who survived rape, you do not have a right to complain about anything".

Look, all fandoms have their terrible members, yes, but you know what the difference between most of them (barring some extreme cases like Homestuck, Hetalia, etc.)?

That all those fandoms try their hardest to kick those terrible members and refuse to be associated with them.

The bronies do the complete opposite: they try so hard to not shun others and to welcome and tolerate everyone that all the dregs from the other fandoms have gravitated to brony fandom and found a place that didn't kick them out for being terrible. (Same problem as TV Tropes, actually, which is why your links made my irony-meter explode.)

And then what? The sane fans leave. So all that remains is the terrible members and the fans that are in denial or simply don't know better.

Because everyone insists on "letting be" the other fans, instead of punishing them and then kicking them out if they don't shape up. Like a healthy society would.

...I can't speak for the Homestuck fan because I'm not in it, but the Hetalia fandom is VERY loud about renouncing extremely terrible fans.

From what I know Homestuck is too. I haven't seen a lot of obnoxious stuff in that fandom but I know it's there because people talk about it - and when they do it's usually other Homestucks saying how horrible it is.

I've seen some Homestuck-related blogs dedicated to stopping and calling out the physical harassment cosplayers have gotten at conventions (like people getting buckets thrown at them), so there is some degree of that 'kicking out' in HS fandom.

But overall, I agree with you.

Bronies only "love and tolerate" those who tow the fandom line. Anyone who speaks out otherwise on even the most menial of issues gets dogpiled and any and all pretense of 'love and tolerance' gets thrown out the window. And the whole 'Derpygate' crap... man, when you've got two people (maybe more) from the show telling the fandom to lay off of the hideous personal attacks on one person (I ain't a fan of Yamino at all, but she didn't deserve that), you know things are beyond rotten and/or salvaging when it comes to a fandom.

Don't tell me "but I can't do anything, they're the bad ones, not me"!

Link to events like this to all your sane brony friends. Spread the word.

Make a ruckus out of every single one of these events, where a brony is racist, or sexist, or a rape apologist, or transphobic, or homophobic, and so on.

Make the publicity so big, so insiduous, that there is not a single corner of the fandom that hasn't heard about it.

This way the perpetrators will be shamed until they either learn that this shit is not okay or until they simply give up and leave the fandom. Then you will have a fandom that you can be proud of, a fandom of good standing.

I probably should have added a disclaimer.

Many of the tumblr blogs (or maybe all, I don't know), accept submissions from other people, so you'll see a variety of opinions and experiences, from many different people.

This means that they have some truly silly stuff, but you can still find useful entries if you are willing to dig through the rest.

I agree that we do need to call out this shit. "Love and tolerance" has been warped into "never hold anyone responsible for anything" if anything it should be applied to simple things like "he/she has a different headcanon than me" and not "oh they committed rape? well they're still a fan love and tolerate"

Perhaps we could start a group to call attention to these attitudes and fight them and call out people when we see them being misogynistic and obnoxious. It might be kind of scary to stand up to these people if they're vicious, but if we let them do whatever they want. We can't just sit around and excuse people being asshats. If someone does something awful like Veers did we should let him know what he did was wrong , not make excuses for him and certainly not let him make excuses for himself. Hold people to the rules of common decency.

though I know people are afraid that this could turn into canon police type thing and yeah that would be bad if it got out of control to where people were attacking and doing "callouts" for simple difference oof opinion (and before you scoff- I was in a fandom with 'fandom police'. Yes it got out of control. No it was not fun) The important thing is that we remember why we're doing this in the first place. Not because we want to control everyone but because we don't want people to think we're okay with the awful things that have been done in the past.

No one is saying that the rapist shouldn't be held responsible for his actions, including hopefully being arrested, and that it isn't disgusting how many people tried to justify or defend his actions by saying "BUT HE'S ONE OF US", or "BUT HE'S STILL PART OF A FANDOM THAT PREACHES TOLERANCE AND ACCEPTANCE! HE CAN'T POSSIBLY BE A BAD GUY!", or "WELL SHE WAS JUST A SLUT ANYWAY!". What diet_poison is saying is that you can't say that all bronies are bad people just because some bronies are bad people. If they knew about it and they didn't do or say anything about it, that's one thing. Yes, I can see the potential for corruption in making a "fandom police".

The best I can think of, for now, is to spread information like this through social venues like tumblr, facebook, twitter, etc. Inform your MLP fans friends first, and urge them to spread the word.

I would say that we should e-mail Seth from Equestria Daily, but he probably would want to stay out of this for fear of drama, especially since Hasbro reps and part of the show's crew appear to be very aware of EqD.

It might be worth posting in sites like Ponychan and /mlp/, if anyone has guts of steel and the tact of a savvy politician to brave those places and come out okay.

I know there are many other pony forums, so maybe those too?

I'm truly not active in fandom, and fandom!secrets is pretty much the extent of my fandom interaction, but if I start making an internet presence I probably will start promoting awareness of this and an urging to the fans to report incidents like these in the already established tumblrs (since making one more might be redundant, I think?).

Isn't that all the more reason to bring it to their attention? I don't go on EqD or know much about them, but they SHOULD be actively renouncing this shit.

Maybe I'll start going there more and see what it's like. It seems like a nice site from what I've done there...it's got good art, stories, and discussions. But I've only dipped my toe in.
