I read somewhere that, in the movie, Ori is actually supposed to be the youngest. He's got more of a beard than Kili.

I thought that was the case in the books, yeah. But to be fair to AYRT, I think that the film strongly suggests that Ori is the youngest (ie - if I remember correctly - the Goblin King says something to the effect that they'll start torturing the youngest of the company first and the camera immediately cuts to Ori looking frightened).

Ori is among the youngest, but not the youngest overall. It's common knowledge among fans of dwarves that the length of beard depends upon age. If Kili had actually had some sort of deformity to keep him from growing a beard, he'd likely be shunned by other dwarves, and considering the limited amount of female dwarves, probably be unable to take a wife among his own kind.

I'm pretty sure Tolkien never actually made any remarks about age = length of beard.

That would certainly make Bombur oldest of them.

You mean the books the movies are based on, yes?

This is true of many fandoms but it seems completely reasonable to fill in any blanks in movie canon with the facts from the canon it is based on.

Fili and Kili are repeatedly referred to as the youngest of the dwarves in multiple movie sources (and the original book, as well). Ori is young but it still older than the two.

People are probably citing the shot focusing on Ori and the Goblin king said the "start with the youngest". While he isn't the youngest, he would have definitely been among the firsts.

His beard in the movie is short because they think he looks hotter that way. He is the Legolas equivalent just as Richard Armitage is the Aragorn equivalent.
