Wow. I don't care if you're being serious or if you're trolling--you're the one who needs to think.

Oh good, victim-blaming, just what a thread started by someone who was raped and is looking for advice needs. Sounds like your fucking problem is also not thinking. Or possibly being a giant asshole. One or the other.

If you're trying to troll, it's not funny, and even if you're not, you can go fuck yourself. Take your victim-blaming bullshit with you and don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

Hello, rapist.

Re: TW talk of rape

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
I'm with you, anon. Unless OP was drugged without her knowledge (either with actual drugs or by alcohol deception), it's not right to expect other people to be responsible for her frame of mind if she seems like a willing participant.

you can go fuck yourself too

'if she seems like a willing participant' what bullshit

NAYRT. So what would you do? You see two people at a party kissing or otherwise seemingly and willingly having a good time. Both are drunk. Do you go and stop them, because you don't think that one or the other is in perfect condition to consent? Or do you leave them alone to continue in peace, like I would? People are not obligated to constantly play guardian to others.

ayrt

The right thing to do is to keep an eye on someone who is probably visibly blackout drunk or nearly, yeah. I don't understand the argument that says "well, it's not MY job to look after everyone" personally, sorry, how is that even a question? It is possible to have fun at a party and still be vigilant of yourself and others.

If you see someone who can barely stand on their feet being carried off, then sure, you should go check if everything is fine. But checking on completely drunk, although conscious, people who are going somewhere more private, isn't usually appreciated and most likely you just get both accusing you of being a creeper.

The thing is, there's no way to know if she seemed like a willing participant. She doesn't even know exactly what happened, but none of the details she's provided make it sound like consensual sex. At the very least, they don't provide a good reason to assume she consented. In any case, it was clearly traumatic for her, and she needs help right now. Not a debate about what she "should" have done.

I don't know the degree of drunkness of the guy involved in this scenario, so it could have been a case of both their judgment being impaired and sex happening when it should not have. But implying that if you get drunk and someone who is far more sober than you takes advantage of that to have sex with you is your fault and that the only way it's not your fault is if you're roofied is shitty. And seeming like a willing participant (although if she was drunk enough to black out I HIGHLY DOUBT that was the case) does not equal consent, especially when that that person has had a lot to drink. Attitudes like yours are what lead people to thinking it's totally cool to have sex with someone who's wasted because they seem into it or they're too drunk to say no.

And honestly, having sex when you're incredibly drunk is a bad idea all around, whether it's just one or both parties that are drunk.
