Dear OP: Yes, some people are asshats online. However, they are generally allowed to be asshats on the internet. If you think they are violating a rule of some sort, report them to the people who enforce the rules. If they are being asshats in your space (eg, your journal), ban them or otherwise lock things down until they lose interest and go away. If neither of these things apply, then leave them alone and save yourself the aggravation and F!S the eyerolling. You cannot enforce any standard of decency on people.

I did a lot on googling when I first decided to learn how to make lace and now I can't find any of the sites I bookmarked, I'm afraid. I did find this list of lace shops which might be of help if Claire's Lace is no good for you, but a lot of the links lead to dead sites - http://lace.lacefairy.com/Lace/laceshops.htm

Part of visiting a new place is going to the things you've heard about so you can tell the folks back home, "Yeah, I went there!" and they know what you're talking about. So I'm echoing the mix idea - let her get her tourist on, but also coax her into going to a few locally-known places.

When my partner came to visit me in California, I spent time taking him to the well-known things (amusement parks, mostly) and I did add some of the local spots, but to this day, I'm still sad I never took him to In-N-Out or a roadside fruit stand. I totally plan to when we go back, but yeah - you should totally add in the non-touristy spots!

Yeah? I grew up in an environment that fetishized weight in women and then spent my teenage years learning thin is in and i'm stocky and muscular so no matter which insecurity i'm dealing with i'm always the loser. So when I'm being hard on myself I try and switch tactics and give whatever I'm fixating on a nickname and focus on how it helps me, how awesome it is, like it's an enthusiastic part that just wants to please me so I tell it what I like about it, or tease it for being so excitable (eg. My boobs are so big because they're eager puppies who want to hug the world and make sure I never starve! My ass is so flat because it's shy and doesn't like any of the foods I've eaten yet! My hair frizzes up in humid weather because it likes basking in the attention! Etc. Etc.)

I also have internalized modesty issues with showing my knees/elbows or wearing clothes that fit so I try and tease my knees and ask them if they're excited to be out in the sunshine today or I pretend my belly is enjoying my t-shirt's cottony hug to distract myself from feeling irrationally slutty.

...I'm realizing how this sounds.
