...rape with a snowball?

I think the OP means snowflake. There's a few scenes in the film where snow created by Jack hits people on the nose and there's these sparkles, and then they act a lot nicer (at least short term).

But if that's the case, he also did it to two kids, as well; I'd think that would worse.

If it acted as a way to "mind-wipe" people, yeah, I could see it (which would be fun to explore in fic ngl), but I don't think that's how it works. I don't think that that's how it works, though. In all the cases we see, it doesn't force anyone to act differently then they would, it just brings their willingness to have fun to the surface, they still act like themselves.

And, granted this is just speculation, but I thought that what Jack's snowball did to Bunnymund was remind him of why he became a Guardian in the first place, why he cared so much about protecting children, rather then seeing them in kind of an abstract "I'm too busy to actually interact with them, but I'm trying to care for them" kind of way.

I agree, it doesn't change who you are, it just gets you to lighten up. It's worth noting that he nails Pitch right in the face with a snowball and it has no effect on him whatsoever.

Exactly! Bunny still is Bunny, even though he's friendlier to Sophie, and he isn't so tense about her being in the Warren, he treats her like she actually is; a small curious kid, and not like she's some weird alien invader.

I saw the movie and loved it. I cannot imagine what you are referring to??? Snowball rape?? Is that a thing? Not to take your concern lightly but it doesn't make a lot of sense.

In Bunny's Warren, he hit him in the nose with a snowflake, and Bunny started acting a lot nicer to Sophie.

Why did they use the word rape, though? Nothing extraordinarily brain-washy happened with the snowflakes; not from what I could see...

I see it more like administering someone happy pills.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-05 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but in a lot of ways it's like putting them in someone's food without telling them - which is a little skeevy.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-05 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Is it a form of mind control? Yeah. Skeevy? Eeehhhh yeah a little I guess, but as others have stated, I don't think it's so much forcing the person to have fun so much as lightening their mood and reminding them of funzies and whatever.

I think it's not a case in which you should use the word "rape." Maybe violated or a betrayal of trust and abusing of power, but rape? No, probably not.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-05 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
I would've thought brainwashing, not rape, but yeah. It bothered me too.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-05 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Excuse me, OP, but could it be that you are a little bit stupid?

(Anonymous) 2013-01-05 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
Not the OP, but why? Jack used his snow to force the bunny to change, without his permission or any warning.

I was fine with it at the time, but looking back on it that's pretty skeevy and just plain WRONG. Rape may be too strong a word, but I dont think OP needs to be called stupid for calling it that.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-05 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt

And I think OP is stupid for caling someing that isn't rape "rape".
If I had magic powers and I used them on you to clean up my room, would you tell people that I raped you? As in, I forced you to have sex with me? No, you wouldn't. You would tell people that I used magic to force you to do a chore you didn't want to do.

Using "rape" in any other context than "forcing someone to perform a sexual act against their will" is stupid. Please look it up in a dictionary if you don't believe me that "rape" can't be applied to things that have nothing to do with sexual activities.

And yes, the word "mindrape" might get used, just like "mindfuck", but both has very little to do with actual rape or even consensual fucking.
Using rape out of context just waters down the actual word and that is incredibly harmful to victims and future victims.

In conclusion: yes, OP acted stupid.

OP

(Anonymous) - 2013-01-06 02:44 (UTC) - Expand

(Anonymous) 2013-01-05 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
While I don't think it was 'mind-rape' OP, I *do* think it was pretty skeevy, and Jack shouldn't have done it. By the same token? I also suspect that he did it for a pretty decent reason [...beyond Jack liking to screw around with Bunny.] Namely, time constraints. I know that's not what they showed, but they *were* on a pretty tight schedule and I'd suspect Bunny was going to try to send the girl* back. Granted, Bunny is fast, but even with that it would have taken a little time and they didn't have much of that to spare.

Admittedly, that's mostly headcanon/speculation on my part.

*Sorry, can't remember her name for the life of me at the moment @_@

(Anonymous) 2013-01-05 10:44 am (UTC)(link)
Congratulations OP, you're just contributed to the trivialization of the word rape. At this rate, it'll be completely meaningless.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-05 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
While I have not seen the movie, it sounds to me like OP believes that Jack violated the bunny by rewiring his personality.

I don't think that's trivial at all. And since it was a violation of safety, I don't think that "mental rape" is an invalid term for it, either.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-05 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
You are waaay overthinking it

(if we want to bring up a real mindrape-treated-as-harmless-and-good, you should have gone with memory alteration spells from Harry Potter)

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-01-06 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Probably.

It just made my skin crawl and left me with kind of a terrible taste in my mouth. With the kids Jack had simply magnified a pre-existing trait. With Bunny didn't WANT to have fun. Whether or not he appreciated it afterwards doesn't change that.

(I was not searching for something in a genre. I just saw the movie and all kids and adults around me were laughing, and I was trying to figure out WHY)
