I do the EXACT same thing. And I sometimes play it while doing exercise at the gym, because saving Middle-Earth is better motivation in that moment than getting more fit.

Man, I can sympathize on the car thing. I used to have to take a bus every day to class. It was a friggin' nightmare. After a while mom just started picking me up in the late afternoons and when I switched to a different college she'd drop me off as well.

Once I got my license, the whole world opened up for me. There's nothing quite like driving on the highway with Beloved going.

Hope you get a car soon.

I don't have the LotR soundtrack on my phone, but I find that pretty much any kind of soundtrack (movie, video game etc) and even stuff like Two Steps from Hell makes long walks/trips more bearable (I don't have a car either). And sometimes I walk a little faster depending on the track :P

Nerdy? Maybe a bit. Amazing and fun? Definitely. I keep the LOTR and (now) The Hobbit OST's on my phone too, because imo they're gorgeous and one can never get too much of them. And like you said, they make daily life more epic.

ANYTHING CAN BE EPIC WITH MIDDLE EARTH MUSIC.

Now I want to walk around my yard with a walking stick and awkwardly fail at climbing trees while my neighbors watch from their front porch.

I wrote the vast majority of my honours thesis to one of the Doctor Who soundtracks, because it was epic enough to keep me motivated. Feeling like you're saving the universe > writing my thesis. Nerds unite!

I do this whenever I have to do something I'm horribly intimidated by. I have to drive my niece to the busiest airport in the world in a couple of weeks and I just keep repeating, "we're going on an adventure!"

I start the day walking onto the street with the Due South theme playing. It makes me feel confident. If I'm walking long distances, which I often do as I can't drive and couldn't afford it if I could, I keep DS or LOTR or Christian hymns on random on my ipod. They invigorate me and encourage me to keep going.

Your feet hurt after thirty minutes? Get better shoes, haha. I have a car. I walk voluntarily. It's better for me.

But then I spend the whole time daydreaming while I'm walking, so really all the time gets eaten up while I'm thinking about nerdy shit. :D

I've definitely been caught wheezing the LoTR and Skyrim soundtracks while struggling up actual mountains on killer hikes from hell. It actually really helps, and it takes geekery to a new level of epic.

I wouldn't worry so much about people laughing at awesome nerdiness and more about my feet hurting after only 30 minutes of walking. Are you wearing the right shoes? Are you just not used to walking? Is something wrong? Your feet shouldn't start hurting that quickly just from walking.

I don't do that much when walking because I usually like to be able to hear what's happening around me, but when driving (well, being driven) I love to listen to a soundtrack (and yes, the LotR ones are especially great for that), stare straight ahead without shifting like I'm a camera and pretend I'm in a film...

Sometimes things coincide in a nice way... Like walking in an underground corridor with a bunch of other people going in the same direction, with one of the more martial and sinister tunes from the Game of Thrones soundtrack (something like 'Don't Die With A Clean Sword'), and pretending I was going to war. I also remember being on the underground once listening to the Fringe soundtrack, one of the vaguely worrying tunes, and working myself up into a mock-paranoia, as if I was in pre-credits waiting for something horribly weird to happen.

I can't drive and half to walk everywhere, too. (Or accept rides from random people who call out to me on the highway, though I try to avoid that.) I don't have a portable music player but I like to daydream that I'm a Pokémon trainer on my way to get my next badge. So, rock on OP.
