I don't feel like logging out and going anon, whatever

This is actually sort of fandom related, but I hate all the politics/SJ stuff on tumblr, not because I disagree with it or whatever, but because I browse tumblr and participate in fandom mostly so I can ESCAPE from that sort of thing. I know SJ issues are important but I hate reading about rape and sexism and racism, etc. all the time when I'd rather just look at pictures of robots or slash fanart of Go Nagai characters or Persona 4 stuff or whatever. Shit, it's like I'm perpetually in college, like I'm trapped forever in my Feminist Theory course and I can't get out

Yeah I know there's tumblr savior but a) I can't figure out how to get it to work even after people have explained it to me (tumblr still sort of confuses me) and b) this stuff doesn't always get tagged anyway so it wouldn't help much

I'm right with you on that honey.

And to add to it, you can still enjoy something even if it is flawed, heck even if you find parts of something completely disrespectful you can still enjoy it. It does not make you an evil person.

I actually agree :/ I think it's important too, but I'm really tired of it. I fight that kind of thing irl, I don't want to see it and stress out while I'm on the internet too.

As for Tumblr Savior, idk about other browsers but in Chrome, the logo will be on your toolbar. You click it and enter all words you don't want to see into the blacklist. Truth about the tags though. I usually don't follow people who don't tag, they're such a pain in the ass.

Well, I don't use Chrome so

I guess I should be IDK it annoyed me for some reason, granted that was over a year ago

I have ts for firefox because a little while ago the developer finally made it easy to use! You can try the updated version

I ignore an SJ stuff and refuse to reblog it. I think a lot of times people are looking wayyyy to deep into something subtle an actor does. And people also forget that celebrities are human. And when they say one tiny thing that isn't quite good, Tumblr makes it seem like they murdered a bunch of nuns while high on crack.

Well luckily I don't see as much of that, mostly what I see is just news stories and people commenting on them, like whatever homophobic thing this judge did or some racist t-shirts this crappy taco place in South Carolina are making and selling... stuff like that. It's like, okay, I do read news on the internet and I'm perfectly able to follow these stories elsewhere, thanks

The worst is when people are like WHY DOESN'T THIS HAVE 10,000 NOTES and I'm like BECAUSE I USE TUMBLR FOR FANDOM

Exactly! My tumblr is for me to reblog awesome SPN/Avengers/Sherlock/Hobbit stuff. Not to talk about my political agenda.

Re: Non-fandom secrets

(Anonymous) 2013-01-12 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
I also find that half of the time the stuff like that that people reblog isn't even accurate. I've seen so many posts that all you have to do is google that shit and see that it's either from a satirical news site or snopes will have an article about how it's a story that's been going around since 2001. The inability to fact check things is one of my biggest peeves with Tumblr, honestly.

I totally get you on feeling burn out, though. That kind of stuff I typically post about on twitter, where I can discuss it with friends. I don't really feel the need to do so on Tumblr. Tumblr I just want to look at pretty pictures.

Not to mention that if an actor so much as looks at someone of the same gender funny, everyone worships the ground they walk on as a ~*spokesperson of LGBTQ*~. The literary analysis is really good and all, but everyone really needs to calm down.

I can only assume we are talking about SPN. I love Dean/Cas as much as the next person, but some of those people are fucking nuts. And they don't see their interaction as anything BUT romantic. Even though many of my friends don't ship Dean/Cas and will never see them as romantic (unless it becomes canon). But try explaining that to them.

Re: Non-fandom secrets

[personal profile] badass_tiger 2013-01-12 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Hah, not really, I was talking about some actors and RPF, but yeah, Supernatural is pretty prominent in all kinds of aspects. Sometimes someone will begin a post with 'I don't actually ship Dean and Cas...' and I'll be like 'Aaahh finally a post about how all canonical interaction has been platonic and how they are the greatest bros' but nope, it's always about how romantic they are and what a great, progressive character Dean is etc. Everyone just went crazy about the list of fictional lgbtq characters page on Wikipedia (I think it's titled something like that), saying how they knew Dean was bisexual all along, but seriously. They do realise everyday people edit Wikipedia, right? Jeez.

Re: Non-fandom secrets

I had someone on Tumblr get pissy with me because I said that Dean wasn't canonically bisexual, and apparently this is ~erasure~ and on the same scale as telling an actual LGBTQ person that they have to be straight, regardless of what they identify as...or something. Nevermind I'm bisexual myself and think that he can be read as a repressed bisexual. It's just not, you know, actually been made canon, and therefore it's kind of shitty for people to act like jerks to people who say they view him as straight.

Re: Non-fandom secrets

(Anonymous) 2013-01-12 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
there's this analysis of the Legend of Korra going around that is based on the line the main character says about how this group of people are 'oppressing themselves' I dunno if you're familiar with the show, but the line is pretty much a joke and mostly makes the character look silly, but this analysis makes it sound as if that one joke is going to bring down the entirety of civilization.

And it's like, no, you're a moron who just wants to sound smart. Fucking go talk about something that actually IS important to call out, not some inconsequential line in a shitty kid's show

Sometimes I fantasize about having sex with boys - a nephew, a neighbor's son, something like that. Seeing the age of consent is 18 where I live, they are always underage, and they can get pretty young in the fantasies.
Sometimes I even think I would do it, if I had any shred of confidence.

Re: Non-fandom secrets

Thankfully, you don't. Lets keep it that way, you subhuman filth.

Re: Non-fandom secrets

(Anonymous) 2013-01-12 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Well, you could always move to state where the age of consent is 16. It is in the majority of the country, I think.

Other than that, wait it out. Please don't go younger than 16 though, that's sketchy.

I don't usually mind politics and SJ stuff on tumblrs that are mostly devoted to that. There are a few SJ blogs that I like to read on Tumblr.

But I use Tumblr mainly for fandom and cute things like cat gifs, and I don't feel comfortable mixing the two. Sometimes I'll like or reblog a post that's lighthearted, like a gay pride post. But I would feel uncomfortable "liking" a post about something very serious or tragic like rape or the Sandy Hook shooting. It feels trivializing to me when 99% of what I like and reblog is fandom stuff and cute cats.
