stereotype's there for a reason, though- they're highly active working dogs that need to be kept constantly engaged, a LOT of people who have them think they're cute and don't realize that, leading to destructive, unruly and often 'wicked' behaviour

it's not just because 'looks like this', it's a breed thing- happens more often than people thing with labs too, they're a bit nuts, and a lot of people are also unprepared for retrievers turning out to be pretty high energy (see: marley and me)...

lol no. that was an example to say that the dumb statement "stereotypes are there for a reason" means nothing and isnt an argument against what OP said. OP is tired of seeing every husky portrayed the same stereotypical way, and someone replies with well, reasons, as if huskies couldn't be portrayed some other way

Stereotypes are shitty because they don't take differences into account, but they do actually exist for a reason and generally have at least some basis in reality. A basis that is often highly, highly skewed and often taken out of context, but still.

They didn't write it very well, I didn't even notice that until you pointed it out. (I don't really think comparing it to racism is a good idea, but I did read "stereotypes [are] there for a reason" when I first read that comment which is generally not a great thing to say)

in this case the reason is because dogs like these are working breeds and tend to be unruly- if they were portrayed as inherently incapable of good behaviour, I'd agree that's unfair, just like if someone black was automatically portrayed as from the hood because WELL THAT'S THE DEFAULT- that's not right.

however just as there are black people from the hood there are also plenty of working dogs who unfortunately are adopted or cared for by people who don't really understand what it means to take care of a high energy breed and blame the problem that results on the breed because they're just bad!! look at their faces! rather than thinking about what motivated the dog to act out in such a way

let me put it this way- if a tv show made something about the lives of black people from the hood and actually went into depth and detail about what that actually meant and explored the stereotype- why did it come to be? who popularized it? how does the knowledge of that stereotype affect the people who actually LIVE in that kind of situation?

I think stereotypes are great provided you're willing to think about them and their implications and actually DO something with them instead of use them as stock cutouts, frankly.

Except isn't that kind of what "wicked" means? And using "unruly" in the same context implies that it's the "I want to cause trouble!!" kind of unruly rather than the "I'm bored as fuck and I don't know what to do because I'm a dog so I'll break things" kind of unruly.

How is it hard to understand? I understood immediately that they meant that kind of face.

I got the bandit face aspect right off the bat. My first thought on reading the secret was "...just like raccoons." Followed up immediately by, "huh, I wonder why that doesn't tend to apply to Malamutes?"

If I had to guess - it usually seems to me like huskies have much...sharper, bolder features and markings than mallys - I could be wrong, but if that's a real distinguishment between the breeds that could play into it.

I absolutely hate this book, btw. Especially the scene where she beats the dog hysterically. Not because it was bad for the dog (he in all probability wasn't even in much pain), but because NO WAY I would interact with such a person on a regular basis, never mind that she had postnatal depression.

Being too high-energy for a lot of people to handle doesn't make them "wicked". Saying things like that is part of the problem because it tries to make it the animal's fault that the people are being irresponsible. No. The animal does not know any better.
