sometimes I get the feeling that most people use words like "ugly" and "hate" a lot more lightly than I do. I takes a lot to make me hate someone or thing they're honestly ugly

A bit harsh, aren't you? Tumblr is largely teenage girls. I don't remember being a fully rational thinker when I was, say, sixteen (LOL at me saying this at the ripe old age of twenty...something). Although, I am getting as sick of Benedict Cunberbatch as the next person, I don't wish his career derails simply because I dislike him for no reason (his hair). Irrational hate for anything isn't something to be defended.

The answer to your question is no, and especially not in real life, at least for me? It's pretty harmless to have some very private hatred of a celebrity but when you start despising the people who like him or despising actual people for no apparent reason it's time to take a step back.

Tumblr is prone to exaggeration but I don't know, I would guess he has one of the nicest personalities out of the several actors who are hella hyped on Tumblr right now.

Eh, if his association and enthusiasm got them into Shakespeare I don't see the issue. Certainly when I was at school it wasn't cool to like those plays and I would've probably loved something like tumblr to have existed then, even if older me doesn't really get it. A lot of them are young and will probably soon realise there's loads of talented theatre actors, old and young and in time they'll maybe even branch out into other play writes.

That said, yeah his over presence in fandom is pretty irritating at times so I agree with that part of your secret, though I wouldn't be so hostile about it. A few months ago it was Cumberbatch. Someone else will be along soon. In fact Richard Armitage and co seem to be getting a lot of attention at the moment.

For fuck's sake, yes you should have a good reason to hate someone. Hate is a very strong, hurtful word. You don't even know Tom Hiddleston personally, and unless he's publicly done or said some terrible things that I'm unaware of, I really doubt you have a good reason to hate this man.

By the way, no, I don't hate anyone in real life for "some reasons that don't make sense." The fact that you apparently do is disturbing.

I don't care if you think he's ugly or a mediocre actor or whatever. I wouldn't even call myself a big fan of his. But you clearly have some growing up to do if you think it's okay to hate people for such petty reasons.

So basically you're saying you're an asshole, and because you're tired of someone being popular, and don't like how he looks, he deserves to fail just so you don't have to see/hear about him anymore.

Do you think about what your words mean before you say them? I always feel sorry for actors when people call them ugly. How would you like to receive that kind of treatment? I dread to ask how you feel about people even less photogenic than him. Or do they get a free pass because no one looks at them twice?

I really don't get this hateful attitude at all. I had to unfriend someone yesterday for spewing hate for Justin Beiber because it was just as sickeningly rooted in superficial, selfish, 'he's not as sexy as MY stars' vitriol as your secret. And I don't even listen to either artist.

All of you just grow up. At least Tom is more mature than you from what I've seen.

Look, I get that sometimes popularity can create a backlash with some people. And that you can dislike an actor for no reason. There are a few actors I dislike for no apparent reason myself.

But to hate on a guy this hard and wish all his projects fail just because you don't personally like him? Uh, yeah, a little extreme there.

I suggest you take a vacation from tumblr. A lot of HiddleStans are there and they are obsessive to an alarming degree. Maybe try other sites for a while.

If by "hate" you mean "irrationally dislike", it's pretty common for people to irrationally dislike random people they don't know. I think even irrationally disliking people you do know is generally considered a bad plan.

If by "hate" you mean "hate", then that's... not so common.

I pretty much feel this way about Benedict Cumberbatch. Except Cumberbatch is kind of a douche and not nearly as pleasant and nice as Tom Hiddleston makes himself out to be. And I don't see how people find Cumberbatch attractive when he kind of looks like a lizard to me? To each his own I suppose.

But either way, wishing him failure in his career is kind of extreme, isn't it?

Just get Tumblr Savior, Savior all of the Tom Hiddleston and calm your ass down. (Of course if everyone doesn't tag their posts then Tumblr Savior doesn't help much there.)

I have no negativeness against him. I don't feel any attraction to him but I do understand the craze. It's just the fans that get me crazy. They should accept that people have differing preferences and oh, why do I have to like this guy so much anyway? I want to just blend him in with the rest of the actors that I don't particularly dislike but just don't find special. And that's my opinion. And I'm totally fine with the fan opinions. I respect your them. Just chill, fans.

If you genuinely hate anyone without having a clear and at least semi-rational reason to do so, then yes, there is most definitely something very very wrong with you.

However, I'm guessing that what you really mean here is: I have a mildly negative emotional reaction to this actor and it irritates me when other people post lots of pictures of him.

Lots of actors have a theatre background and have done Shakespeare and are friendly with their fans... but how many of them can improv in ancient Greek?

I'm not even a fan, really, and I'm not attracted to the man at all, but from what I've heard he seems like a pretty excellent human being.
