When I was a kid I used to have a huge preference for first-person stories because it made it easier for me to connect with the protagonist. Nowadays I don't really notice, but a lot of my favorite books are told in first-person and I think are better off that way.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-19 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)Hell, I was 4200 words into writing a story not long ago before it told me that third person was all wrong and it wanted to be in first. And, yeah, I went back and changed it.
Present tense, however, can sod right off unless it's Charlie Stross or something short.
