I find it weird that a lot of you people thinking getting rid of pubic hair = pre-pubescent. Small children don't really have arm or leg hair, but then a lot of adult women get rid of that. No one thinks they're "pre-pubescent" for doing that, yet when they get ride of their pubes that means they're a kid???

It's an aesthetic choice. I just don't get you people.

kids do have arm and leg hair though. I have applied approximately 9000 bandaids to pre-k kids, and they invariably tear them off and then scream when the hair gets ripped out.

This

The comments about pre-pubescents = clean shaven genitals are weird. It's pretty common plus it's a practice of some cultures. Physical maturity is determined by development of the genitals themselves, not the amount of hair present.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-27 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Lets not invoke the genital-altering practices of various cultures to prove your point, mmkay? This will only end in tears.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-27 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
I wasn't even thinking about female genital mutilation, but then you had to go and say this.

You unimaginable bastard.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-27 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
If not me, someone would have. Probably in detail with links to pictures, because a) people are dicks that way, and b) "other cultures do it" is the shittiest reason for anything, ever.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-27 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
So "other cultures accept transgender people" is a shitty reason to consider that maybe perceptions of trans* individuals are culturally bound?

(Anonymous) 2013-01-27 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
DA

While other some culture's acceptance of trans* individuals is a great thing, just the fact that a certain culture does something doesn't make it right or wrong. That's up for you and other people to decide. I honestly don't know how you got that from the anon above you? ?_?

(Anonymous) 2013-01-27 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
The point I was trying to make (poorly, I'll admit) is that the existence of cultural variation helps to demonstrate that certain things we take for granted as being "correct" are actually social constructs. While it is true that the fact that something is considered acceptable in another culture does not necessarily make it right, it's also true that the fact that something is considered unacceptable in our culture does not necessarily make it wrong.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-28 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Same DA here? Hahapfft, that sounds silly.

Makes sense then! I kind of thought that's what /that anon/ was getting at though. Ah well, as long as we agree that societal values are actually social constructs and that people should probably re-examine their beliefs to make sure that they make sense and such.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-27 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Shaving hair is a whole lot different than genital mutilation, so let's not even go there.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-27 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
I really can't believe that you are comparing what someone does to their body hair to actual mutilation. Why don't we just compare having beards to scarification now? It'd be totally analogous in your world, apparently.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-27 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Just because it's a choice, doesn't mean its not a huge turn off by association for some people. Shaved genitals make women look like little kids to me. And no amount of exposure is ever going to get rid of that gut reaction for me. (At least it hasn't yet.)

(Anonymous) 2013-01-27 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Not to mention that shaving down there makes masturbation/sex feel a whole lot better, so there's a practical reason for doing it too.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-27 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Makes it feel better for you. In the great realm of things we shouldn't generalize for everyone, "what makes masturbating and sex feel better" is a pretty big one.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-27 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
THIS. Chafing and razor burn certainly do not feel better. I'll keep my nicely trimmed bush, thanks.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-27 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Not to mention the unbearable itching after a couple of days.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-27 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
that is not true ime

(Anonymous) 2013-01-28 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
If I shave down there, I get a yeast infection. So no, it does not make masturbation and sex feel better for me, it makes me want to sit on a block of ice until I can't feel my genitals anymore.
