Oh god, I'd managed to forget that travesty existed.

I keep hearing this.

Well, I know what I have to stream! Thanks op!

But I doubt anything ever will be as bad as Actium Maximus. At least Birdemic and the Room are funny.

Re: I keep hearing this.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
I found Birdemic a lot less entertaining than I expected. I felt like it was trying too hard to be bad and just wasn't that funny.

If you want true, roflcopter badness, you need to watch the MST3K "Future War". Now that is BAD. In a hilarious way.

Never seen the movie or read the book, but I hope you're not insinuating the Kristin Kreuk is white. Because, no.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
The whitewashing thing is because ALL the characters in the book are black (if I remember correctly) yet no movie/series version ever has the balls to represent the characters as they are. Because God forbid we have an all black cast in a show or movie.

Nothing to do with your comment (maybe I subconsciously looked at it more closely because I'm Asian) but my computer is slow and I'm coulrophobic in a pretty big way, so when your icon downloaded I was jumped about a mile in my seat, in broad daylight, because damn!

While the author doesn't describe appearances in depth, she's quite specific about some of the characters' skin colour: the main character has "reddish-brown" skin while his best friend has "black-brown" skin. she implies it's geographical as well. The Kargs are blond and pale-skinned (except that one girl) and I think one other woman might have been described has having lighter skin but definitely not white.

Oh god, That. And the Dark Is Rising movie, which IIRC didn't even get called DiR in the end. Seeker? something like that. For me it's a toss-up.

Filmmakers: destroying my childhood since forever.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
It got called The Seeker because poor Susan Cooper didn't want her original title attached to that travesty. And I don't blame her!

Interestingly, this also makes my list of really terrible adaptations -- but I wouldn't have said it was badly acted. As far as I could tell the actors did reasonably well with the truly horrific material they were given.

Wait. I think I heard of this movie before. Back when I was way younger, the local Hallmark channel had this fantasy month(s) where they would premiere shows like The Tenth Kingdom and Dinotopia. Loved the former, liked the latter, I think this movie was lumped in too at the end.

I didn't get to see it. Just the ending part. I think there was this guy talking to another guy with maggots eating his face... or something like that. I don't remember if it's bad or not since I watched so little of it, but (no) thank you for reminding me it existed?

There a Bad Movies and then there are just plain Movies That Are Terrible.

When I think "Bad Movies" I think stuff like the Star Wars Holiday Special or GI Joe or The Room--stuff that is almost (but not always) deliberately corny and is enjoyably bad.

When someone asks me what hands down the worst movie I've ever seen is, I always answer Cat In the Hat. Because it is a Movie That Is Terrible. It's not merely a question of production values or acting or direction or corniness--it's when a movie fails utterly at every task set before it.

The movie in your secret--that's one of them.

not read the book so I don't know the races of the characters in there, but can you say something was whitewashed if two of the four billed characters are played by a black guy and a half Chinese girl?

maybe it's just a naive thought by an unknowledgable person.
but I'm just wondering.
