Maybe his characterization is American, too, in some inexplicable way OP would have to explain to me. Seeing as how he's played by an English actor who has a great deal of input into his character, I doubt it, though.
I could make a comment about how maybe it's because he and Robert Downey Jr aren't fuck-ugly like some apparent TRUE British Sherlocks, but I won't because I'm too mature for that.

I mean, if this is another 'his accent sounds fake' thing, Jonny Lee Miller is actually British, so. If this is a behaviour thing, I don't think he seems particularly American. Arrogant, yes, but the character is supposed to be arrogant, and arrogance is not the sole province of Americans.

(In reality, I just think the writers don't know any better or they don't care. I mean, they're aiming the show at America audiences so they probably are just writing for their American audiences without giving a lot of thought to British terminology.)

...man, what a great movie.
But a brit living in NY, you're right, that's way too much of a stretch.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-19 01:35 am (UTC)(link)Considering that he's a British tv character living in America, played by a British actor who's played American tv characters, based on a British classic literature character who observed that Americanisms creep into your speech, I think it's perfectly in character.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-19 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)I agree on people adopting their language when they move overseas, but at the same time there are certain parts of your language that you can't change because it's so deeply rooted into you.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-20 04:43 am (UTC)(link)IT'S JUST ARSENAL OH MY GOD YOU'D THINK ONE PERSON IN THE ENTIRE PRODUCTION OF THAT EPISODE WOULD KNOW HOW STUPID THAT SOUNDS TO AN ACTUAL BRITISH PERSON NOOOOO
i can tolerate most americanisms and i know non-americans aren't exactly the target audience but no british person, let alone an actual arsenal fan, would ever EVER call them "the arsenal"
(i say british and not english because that is how colossally awful that mistake is. ruined the rest of the episode for me. i don't even support them. sorry to get so mad but argh. cringe!)
for those unfamiliar with the subject of my rant, arsenal is an english football team :P
