i'm a size 8, very tall. i want to be a size 4, or at least be thinner than i am now. people criticize the hell out of me for not being happy with my body so it's now a secret.

It's one thing to criticize you for not being happy with your body but another if they're honestly concerned about your health. Being overly thin is bad for you. (I'm sure you already knew that, but...throwing it out there. It really is.)

yeah, i know, and i don't want to be overly thin. i just want to be as thin as i can be while still maintaining good health. i think people just don't understand that there is a range of healthy. you can be slightly fattier and healthy or slightly less fatty and healthy. being actually overweight or actually underweight are two extremes that i've never been in, but people just do not understand that i want to be thinner when i'm already at a healthy weight.

Personally I get really upset when people who I consider really thin talk about wanting to be thinner. I know this is my own issue that I have to deal with but just consider other people's feelings too.

i mean, i understand, and if anybody actually outright asked me to not talk about it because it bothered them, i would respect that. but that has never actually happened. either they just act like a dick and tell me i'm stupid or insane, or they try to lecture me on anorexia, which is just an insult to my intelligence, honestly. especially because these are people who know me and know how healthy i am. anyway, i just think the whole thing is stupid. i just want to be a bit thinner, like in the way that i want to dye my hair because i like the look of it. i don't know, i understand that people get defensive about weight issues, but they don't have to make it like something is *wrong* with me. but that's why it's all a secret now.

anyway. i'm ranting, sorry.

I understand. That is dickish of them. I used to do that until I realized it was making people feel just as awful as they were making me. Now I just try to avoid it altogether. I'd usually scroll past something like this but I guess I felt the need to say stuff.

well thanks for being reasonable :)

Saying that you sound like you have the beginnings of an eating disorder is 'insulting your intelligence'? Wow.

Maybe your friends, for whatever ludicrous reason, care enough about you that they're worried when you talk about wanting to be on the edge of underweight even though you're already at a perfectly healthy weight.

Actually, no, you know what, just fuck you in general. Fuck you for acting as though eating disorders are something that only happen to people that are 'less intelligent' than you, and fuck you for your "oh poor me" act because people get sick of hearing you talking about wanting to be thinner when you're already slender.

I think they just meant that the lectures are an insult to their intelligence. People have the tendency to be preachy about other people's health. OP knows about anorexia. Their online friends are not qualified to give a diagnosis. So yeah, it is insulting.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-19 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
that is exactly what i meant. obviously i don't think people who have eating disorders are unintelligent. for fuck's sake, i can't even fathom how anybody *could* think that.

i'm sorry but i'm not going to defend myself against this. you don't know me at all and you're making a lot of incorrect assumptions that you have no right to make.

Maybe instead of saying you want to be 'thinner' say you want to be more fit/more toned/more flexible/have better stamina. That way, you can change your eating habits and start some exercises that will help you get to your ideal body without any kind of hassles.

Say you want to be in a triathalon! Just so long as you stay healthy and don't do anything extreme.

Re: Non-fandom secrets

(Anonymous) 2013-02-19 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
this is actually a good idea. i shall try it. (well, minus the triathlon part...my friends would know that i'm full of shit.)

Heeeee! Yeah - triathlons are for people who are, you know....
Nuts. :)

Good luck!

I don't know why other people feel the need to remark on what weight you should feel happy at, but they do. And you will probably get remarks if you do lose weight. I am now a size eight (down from a size 22 three years ago) and even though I've been at this weight for over a year, I still get remarks: "You need to stop losing weight", "You're so skinny". I know part of it is probably the contrast and some of it is what I'm wearing, but it can be irritating. Do beware though, everyone loses weight differently and from different places in different order, so you may be happy with some parts and not so happy with others. I'm pretty happy at this weight, but my wrists are almost bony, while I still have this little pudge just below my bellybutton that I don't like. As long as you are conscious of you're health, you should try for what will make you happy - you're the one that has to live in your body.

that is what happened to my mom as well. but she's actually a size 12 now, and people say she's too skinny! it's unbelievable. she just laughs it off, though.

and seriously, good on you for losing all that weight! that's really impressive.

Yeah, I guess people just get this idea of you in their heads and if you deviate too much from it, it's wrong to them. I can't quite laugh it off yet, but hopefully soon I'll get there.

Thanks!
