Homesick

Anybody else away from home and missing it? Where are you right now and where is home? Who/what do you miss?

I moved away from my family AND CATS and I miss them (esp. my cat and my sisters) a lot during the semester. But I'm currenly on break and with them <3 But I know that feel!

Where "home" is, depends. For me, it's usually where I'm not at the moment. Like, in a week I'll say "I'm going back home" and I'll mean where I live, and not my family. During the last year, actually, I've been more saying "going to [town name] / my family" and not "going home" when talking about, well, going to visit my family.

Only tangentially related, but the concept of "home" has always been weird to me. At least here, "home" = "where your parents live". People will say "so and so still lives at home after graduating from college" or "they moved back home to take care of their sick mother" and my mom's always said something along the lines of that if my brother or I lost our jobs and weren't able to pay the bills we could always "come back home", and it seriously bugs me.

When I moved out and got my own place, my parents' house ceased being home. They still live in the house my brother and I grew up in, but now it's "my parents' house" and mine is "home".

Not sure what the point of this comment is, but yeah. I find it weird.

I'm reverse-homesick. If that's a thing.

I studied abroad a year ago and pretty much adopted the place I studied in as my new home. (Never felt "at home" here in the US, don't get along with my family, so I didn't miss them, had no friends to miss, never really understood the social norms here, but I got along great when I was away.)

Now I've come back, and I can't stop comparing everything here to there. I miss my friends, I miss the weather, I miss small talk not being a thing, I miss the non-existence of slow-walkers, I miss the city and the sea. Everything.

I've been back for almost a year and I'm still homesick for that city every single day.

Where did you go, out of curiosity?

But yeah, I do know what you mean. I'm happy in my home city, but I also miss Tucson, where I did study abroad a few years back, a lot.

I'm away from a place I miss living at. Friends mostly. And being away from family. :P

I'm in Australia and I miss Scotland.

I miss the horrible grey weather, I miss the constant need for a jacket, I miss the broken glass in the gutters, I miss the vomiting college students, I miss the dreary grey buildings, I miss the churning black sea. But mostly I miss my friends and their wackiness and the way they made me feel normal.
