Ever heard of the multiverse theory (of course you have. everyone does it nowadays) or people who can be mediums? Plus there's hypnosis too and Tulpas...then there's dudes that legally marry their virtual waifus in other countries.

Honestly somebody 'dating' a fictional character at any age is possible, but I think it also depends on internet access. If you weren't exposed to fandom at early on...then certain social cues are harder to pick up on. I knew I was still having fun drawing self-inserts with me and my fictional husbando at 17. I knew it was just wishful thinking on my part, and I knew we weren't ACTUALLY DATING, but still.

Yeah, calling bullshit. Internet access wasn't available to me until I was 16 myself, and I still knew that pretending you were dating a fictional character was fucking stupid and pathetic unless you were ten or younger (even twelve is pushing it, sorry).
