the mind is a funny thing, op

honestly i kind of feel the same way. i do like horror movies, but brutal violence and gore not okay for me. and while i didn't like funny games that much, i wasn't bothered by it. it didn't feel like a real movie to me, the story or the characters. it was such blatant social commentary that i couldn't get drawn into it like i normally am with movies. i left the theater just feeling like 'meh, that was mildly interesting' rather than feeling affected by it emotionally at all.

You know, I used to be the same way. I couldn't handle war movies - they grossed me out so, so badly.

But then I saw Sweeny Todd in theaters, and something about the massive quantities of blood set to slightly hilarious music made it better. I've been able to work myself up to things like Game of Thrones without really reacting. I don't enjoy jump scares and "creepy" types of horror movies (and never will), but I surprisingly did okay with Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

OP, there's no reason for you to fight to like horror movies, but they can get better with (sadly) exposure to it.

Well, that makes plenty of sense, since the whole point of Funny Games is to indict people for finding horror/torture entertaining.

This.

Interesting. I'm kind of the opposite - I love horror movies, but can't watch movies like Funny Games because I find them too disturbing and uncomfortable to watch (I can't watch torture porn horror movies either, so for me it's how realistic the violence portrayed is).

That said, I think a lot of people have that one thing that is completely different to what they usually like that they love anyway, or despite themselves.

(Or OP just has a crush on Michael Pitt ;) )

(Also, OP, have you seen the original? If so, do you like it or the remake more, or can you watch one and not the other?)

I am a huge horror fan but those movies bother me. I like horror movies because they are fake and good for a thrill. The casual violence in Funny Games is just too real for me. Give me zombies chomping on someone's leg or Jason killing fornicating campers any day over what seems like real world violence.
