I beg to differ as FS would not change in the drastic way they seem to think. wank levels would remain much the same and Mekkio is being rather insulting and dismissive in their attitude that being anon = trollish mass or more wank simply because of anonyminity. it's the same people as usual, the wank will ebb and flow as usual, anon or not.

Because most of the comments have rather similar language patterns. THey phrase things the same way.

I kinda hope it's the same person or just two because otherwise that kind of memey language is more worrisome on an academic level.

I worried that I was late to the party, actually.

One piece of writing advice that has stuck with me through out the years is that a story (for example) should never say more about the author personally than it does about the story. And for me, that fits into the complaint of manipulation. Sure, all fiction is inherently manipulative, as the author is trying to get you to imagine (or re-imagine) something in the way they want you to - but if your writing is good, the reader either shouldn't notice that they are being manipulated or the reader should be so engrossed that they don't care.

If, on the other hand, as a reader you can see the metaphorical puppet strings jerking behind the scenes, it usually makes you stand back and go 'Gee, that was predictable' - or cliched, or lazy writing, or out of character, or possibly even 'I think this writer needs to sort out some of their issues.' And anything that takes you out of a story then takes away from your enjoyment of the narrative.

It's a great show.

What's the point of going to a fandom related secrets community?

I did for some time, but stopped after a while because they didn't respond. I dunno why; i suspect their cellphone was faulty and I think by now they changed it (they told me they were thinking about doing that). but in the end waiting for them to respond and thinking they were avoiding me made me too nervous.

I can't speak about Soviet culture at all, but I find it hard to believe that the world's yet produced a culture where the expressed ideals prevent rape. I can just think of so many set ups that I'd think would be in conflict with rape but people find a way to do it anyway.

yeaaaah, there are some cultural blinders you're wearing here. Sure, policy/law wise Russia has always been ahead -- early to let women into the arm, to conscript them into reserves forces, early abortion laws, lots of things you could point to.

In the context of societal narrative? "Egalitarian"? Pffff, no, based on what I've seen with my parents and their Russian friends progress on sexism/gender roles is even slower than in North America.

And I think you don't quite understand Russian mentality -- I'm not going to use the word "patriotism" because the connotations are way too positive, but if she was in the position to be put into deep cover, I really doubt she'd have the kind of mindset to fuck that over even after rape.
