You're definitely not alone.

OH MY GOD. I LOVE BORDERTOWN. I've read my copy of "Finder" so much, I barely have covers and a spine on it anymore.

And...Essential Bordertown? YES PLEASE.

That is one of my absolute favorite 'verses of ALL TIME.

/fangirls.

9. Are you an idiot? Kamina dying, as sad as it was, was REQUIRED. The series isn't about Kamina, Simon and Yoko, it's about Simon. Simon would not have grown or progressed at all if Kamina had not died.

Where did it come from? Nowhere. And that is exactly why it had such an effect on the characters.

Nia fucken' owns.

I agree that it was a necessary death. As great as the three of them were it was a necessary part of the story. Because let's face it, often times great things don't last. I think that's exactly the point of the show.

Soubi, seme?

I know people can ship what they want but he's such an uke. I'm even more convinced of this after seeing that picture of Ritsuka at age 17.

#1. Ahahahahahahaha. Oh man, I love that dude. My favorite thing? "Ahhhh... I'll buy it at a high price!" The way he says that just kills me.

#28, no. See, if you're doing that much planning and keeping things in character and doing research and all that, you're actually one of the elite who CARES about their work (whether fan-fic or original fic). Most fan-fic (and a lot of the published ones lately) writers don't. :/

IMO, it was...okay. My peeves: Not enough of everything. Barely enough Ed, not enough Al or Alfons, and waaaaay not enough of Roy or the military. Winry really got the shaft, both plot-wise and as far as screentime goes. The fights were way too short. Bad guy was a weakling, and Nazis? Really? I also didn't like the whole "other side of the Gate is our world" premise, but that started in the anime. Also, Al looks better with short hair. Also, dressing like your disappeared older brother is creepy.

Some stuff that was good in the movie: Fight scenes were still cool. Ed still kicks ass. Clothing, minus Winry's and Al's getups, was sexy hot, especially Ed. Most of the characters were done well, if underdeveloped.

All in all, a decent movie. I just didn't like the ending, and I pretty much figured I wouldn't after seeing what direction the anime took it in. Oh well.

Movie!Ed and his wardrobe change don't get enough love, as far as I'm concerned. <33

9. Eh, I disagree on the first two points. And as for the third... Well, I won't say it. See for yourself.

#20 - Wow. Dude. Are you my twin? I'm 18 and I've never kissed a boy. I'm also very terrified of them and prefer being alone than having to force myself into those situations. However, I'm still a very sexual being in roleplay. And I also always have sexually amazing male characters, even though my girl characters tend to be timid or sexually inexperienced.

WTF LIFE

I think it could have worked better as a series of episodes rather than a single movie, that way they could have given us some more backstory on what had happened and everything wouldn't have felt so rushed. Nazi!Hughes made me a sad, but I've also spent plenty of time justifying it in my head; I mean, there were plenty of other things that happened in the series that I would have preferred didn't but, if they hadn't, it just wouldn't be the same series. I think, as far as the familiar character interactions went (including Heiderich, Nazi!Hughes, and German!Bradley), they were true to the ideals and theme of the series. Yes, the plotline was pretty wtf-worthy, but I think it was more the way that it was handled and pulled off that was more WTF-worthy; I mean, the basic idea was based in history, just like the rest of the series was, so it's not completely out there.

Really, though, for all I loved it, my main argument is that, when Al popped out of that suit of armor at the end and smiled up at Ed, it officially became the first movie that ever made me cry.

2. I have no recs for you, but I agree with you so much. I used to be one of those people who just looked at the Loveless covers and was like "ew pedo". But now, augh, I love Soubi. ;~; I feel so bad for him and love him at the same time. ♥

8. LOL. OMG HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA.

13. ...What?

35. I LOVE IT TOO. It was a freaking good movie, if I do say so myself. Except... I still don't like the Roy mopeage... BUT! The rest is super awesome. :DD

You mean there's a whole series of Bordertown books besides Finder?! Holy shit, obviously my library sucks for only having one and I need to get to a Barnes and Noble. That book was awesome.

36: I agree there is a lot of absolutely horrible crap fanart out there by Japanese people. And I hate the whole ZOMG JAPANESE = WIN attitude.

But I still think on the whole there's a lot more creative output from the Japanese fandom (probably because the media is quite obviously Japanese...) and even if the good:bad ratio is the same in both, just because of size you're more likely to find good stuff in the Japanese fandoms.

I don't know if you're just talking about large ones though, cos IMO the good:bad ratio definitely isn't the same when it comes to smaller fandoms where there's almost no English-language art, but disproportionate amounts of Japanese ones :(

Yes, yes, yes.
I only go on Gaia just to do puzzles. I gave up on most if not all of the forums long ago.
4chan is just more balanced. It contains well over 100% of your daily wtf, yaoi, pedobear, and rapidshit needs.

I actually enjoy the food/cooking section quite a lot as well. The recipes can be...interesting, but the conversation is good.

Completely and totally off-topic, sry.

Your avatar is the coolest, most IC Tyler Durden avatar I've ever seen. Thank you.

35. The thing that annoyed me the most about the movie was that Roy was so incredibly out of character.

It's like having Armstrong small and skinny for the first half of the movie, without even an acknowledgment that he doesn't look anything like normal.

[identity profile] chwheeler.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
In defense of #28, yes, there are a lot of veeeery crappy fics out there, but you have to admit that there many, many, MANY books that suck just as much. I think I find a book I actually enjoy probably about once or twice a year. If even.

So yes, lot's of fic sucks, but so does a lot of original stuff. And you have to remember, some people care just as much about existing characters as they do their own.

About the secret: LOL, yeah! There's a big double standard when it comes to that. A lot of Japanese people love love love American culture, just like a lot of people here love love love Japanese culture. It's like a cycle of love! :D
But also: The reason some asians hate fandom's love of Japan is that it can get a mite creepy. There's a difference between loving something and fetishizing it. And frankly, some people get so hung up on "OMG ASIAN" that they pretty much put you on a pedestal and don't treat you like a human as much as some ideal, and it's soooo creeeepy. So it's not the culture that we lifted from you guys that alienates me from time to time, it's the batshit Japanophiles.
That's just my opinion, though. I don't speak for everyone.

I like Mac's styling pastel shirt!
