From what I've seen of her writing, it's absolutely horrible, and the fans of the genre are going to continue to eat it up like candy.

I know next to nothing about her and her books....

(Anonymous) 2013-03-06 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
If I could make a lucrative career writing books, I'd do it. Kudos to that author, though...yeah, pretty scummy that she does it just for cash.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-06 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Could they have found a more bland couple to put on the cover

I read the first paragraph of that book and re-wrote it entirely in my head so it didn't suck. If she's vomiting these things out in a week, well, it shows.

Yes, god forbid this woman turns her talents into money like the rest of the world does every day. How dare she.

I see no reason not to respect someone who can write a publishable novel in seven days.

Seven days? Where do I learn this witchcraft?

More to the point: judge her all you like, but if she makes a good living off of it, all the more power to her. What an author decides to do with their life is their business and theirs alone. If there's anything in their ouevre I like, I'm just glad they managed to get it published it at all. Expecting any more form them is obnoxiously entitled.

I'm impressed with someone who can churn out a book in seven days and spin it to attract readers. I'm not so much inclined to read the book.

Man, I'm the opposite.

I now admire this woman. I think it's brilliant that you have the talent to know exactly what will appeal to people.

Maybe it's not art, or literature, but I still think it's an awesome ability.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-06 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's why I need a day job. I was never good at picking up on trends, much less catering to them even if I wanted to go that route.

She has my respect for being able to knock out a book in seven days regardless of where the idea came from. That's a skill right there.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-06 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
I can appreciate that everyone's gotta make a buck, but it usually results in crappy writing. Its why Star Wars fans call Kevin J. Anderson "burger boy" and headdesk every time he writes something.

(it's because he said "writing is like flipping burgers." if writing is a dull menial task for u to write it's the same for me to read, burger boy.)

This is why you really shouldn't delve too deeply into motivations or thought processes behind the creation of your favorite works. Once you've read it, it's yours now, for your own reasons. The reasons why it was CREATED don't matter anymore.

However, if you're like me, you can't just forget those reasons (if you know them) and they can ruin your enjoyment forever. So ease off the research and the worship of the creators. Focus on the creation, because ignorance is bliss.

I get not respecting someone who writes a book in a week and doesn't seem to revise or edit for quality. The part where she does a lot of market research, though, and writes to hit the trends -- good for her if she can do that and make it work.

I'm a Genuine Fine Artist who is working on a Boston Terrier portrait tonight. I'll make a nice piece of art out of it, but it's 100% mercenary. I make dog portraits because they sell. Period. If I have to choose between "artistic purity" and "pay my rent," I'm paying my rent, every time.

she seems like a different brand of writer than a lot of us, who write what we enjoy regardless of subject popularity, and i would personally hope that most writers would create works that reflect a part of themselves, but there's no set definition of what makes a writer. some people who have talent use it for self-expression; others only pick up a paintbrush or pen when there's money to be made.
